Default Racer Kurt Caselli Killed In Crash At The Baja 1000

He was killed due to a booby trap on the course?
A booby trap?

Unfortunately booby traps are not uncommon in these events. It is commonly known if you see a crowd of spectators away from a designated pit area, beware!
Ditches, barb wire, timbers, large rocks, mattress... These and many others items that were not there during prerunning. Some obstacles can't be helped but these things are just for the locals "thrills". It is a shame.

Well, there's also a problem with the spread of misinformation:

It's also too bad news gets printed all over the place without good research.

My post wasn't very clear - my comment was aimed at how everyone assumed a trap was set by a spectator based on the Jalopnik article... Looks like they've since updated their article so it isn't definitively stating it was a trap like before.

It's very sad news regardless. News like this makes it unlikely the wife will approve running next year in the Cayenne!

Looks like he hit an animal which caused the tragic accident.
