Off season FIA rule changes from the mundane to the ridiculous
#16
Would it be exciting, yes but at what cost to the dignity of a season long championship. Now we have a race that's worth twice what a win at Spa, Monza or Silverstone would be, does that sound reasonable to anyone? And at Yas no less, not a track known for good racing.
Now someone with a 49 point deficit can be champion at the last race, with mechanicals being a real issue next year you have the potential for a finish and champion that will have much less credibility than those previous.
It's puts too much importance on one race where a small error (bad pit stop, wing damage, tire failure, KERS problem...) can trash an entire season's performance.
No matter, bet it dies on the vine. Apparently this was Bernie's idea, not unlike his fake rain idea. Just unsure how it got past whatever voting orgs it had to go thru.

Just a quick reminder for all the Ferrari fans regarding the rule changes and the 2014 campaign...
Remember, every team (and fans of said teams) on the grid has a right to question, complain and ridicule the 2014 rules except ONE ....
FERRARI.
Ferrari has been given (by FOM and approved by the FAI) the SOLE veto authority for ANYTHING it doesn't care for.
So therefore, we must assume that EVERY rule for 2014 that is passed works to Ferrari's favor....otherwise they would simply veto it.

I don't like it that but for example Le Mans is the same way in sportscars and nobody seems to complain.
Keeps the Championship "alive" longer and in the end, it's the same for everyone but yea, would be better without. Much better than the "chase" though so we still have something else "great" to look forward to.

In any case, and in both cases, it's the same for everyone.

Bernie knows it'll **** off the purists but calculated that they'll watch anyways. These sorts of gimmicks will bring in new F1 fans, the short lived fair-weather type.
ERS (KERS) systems next year are good for around 130HP and 30 seconds of burn, can't wait until live social media voting controls the push to pass button.

This double points rule for the season's final race is pure BS...points should be awarded equally for every race. This gimmicky rule is an embarrassment to the FIA IMHO. Is Bernie still in full command of all of his faculties???
I can hear the cries already if a driver wins the WDC in the final race due to being awarded these bonus points. They will not be accepted as the legitimate champion, as well they shouldn't be.
