The Cayman is better, coupe, 10 years newer, etc. Everyone should start dumping their Spec Boxsters cheap before they're worth nothing...

Coupe is irrelevant after a good cage in either car. After putting in a fresh motor and new spec suspension bits in a SPB, the "10 years newer" is almost irrelevant too. Neither will be raced in their OEM forms.

Ah, I see where you're going with this... I agree.

Not until the fields are obscenely large and there are more cars to finish in front of. Both go buy one......

Then I will sell mine

They are. Both IMSA and PWC use a 5 year from production rule. Anything older isn't racing any more.

That's not how many budget series spec racers get built. For the grassroots guys it is buy the car. If they have no license they start de with it to get there.

Then the car gets the safety equipment and any required components they have to run. Then they start racing.

Engines and gearboxes are replaced as they fail. Sure, there are shop built high dollar cars. They are in every series. But for Joe on the street, he doesn't slap down 5 figures on an engine in season 1. Lots of 944 spec racers don't buy an LSD for the car until several seasons in because of budget. It is not essential to racing even if it might be essential to setting track records.

I would rather take a 60-70k mi 2007 for 25k and build it than a 125k mi 97 for $10k. Going to get a lot more time out of the engine and gearbox before I need to rebuild it. I would prefer to race a newer car when it comes down to it even though there are $15k 50k mi 986s out there.

Uh, negative.

Depends what you're gonna run for suspension, tire, whether you can tie the cage in across firewalls, and how much you expect the tub to flex re. alignment/setup.

That's why I said "a good cage". A good one will dramatically lower tub flex and allow for stiffer suspensions in either platform.

Now that even Porsche has given up the fight and admitted that the Cayman is their best platform, this class makes sense. All of the teams that I know that build race cars are going with Caymans (Caymen?).
On a cost basis, a super SpecBox would also make sense, at least for those of us who aren't already running one (shameless and baseless dig)!
I kept waiting for the Boxster super spec when I had one with a 3.4 in it. Never happened so I had to go with the baby Boxster SPB. Come to Summit Frank. I'ts going to be a blast. Rennpoints predicts that Sean will be faster then me this year. Too bad he's not coming or we could find out. Someone needs to get Streak's lap record, If he has two for long he won't be able to get his helmet on.

if you want racing fun. spec boxster is really where it's at. very close racing. not expensive.

other "spec" classes.... that world has nothing to do with money. cup cars are all spec classes ;-)

if u want a cheap GBT-1 car i have three to sell. well maybe not cheap, but cheaper than anything out there that's comparable.

Just purchased a 2006 Cayman S over the weekend. The car is a cherry, one owner car in beautiful condition. It was less than $20k to purchase.

I am ready. Where are the rules for the new class already........

I think the problem with spec Cayman is most of the people racing Caymans, myself included, would have to de-mod them.

I say make GTB1 more competitive for Gen 1 Caymans somehow.

+ 1,000,000.

Nobody can safely get down to a 2750lb weight (with driver) with a Gen 1 car in GTB1.

A Cayman Spec series should be for Gen 1 non-S cars.
