PCA Club Racing to host new Porsche Cayman
GT4 Clubsport race series in 2016

Columbia, MD—The Porsche Club of America is pleased to introduce a new PCA Club Racing series in 2016 featuring the recently announced track-only Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

As “PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy-East,” the series will be composed of six events each containing two Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport-only races at major road-racing venues east of the Rocky Mountains.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsports’ as-delivered specifications will be strictly preserved and they will race in their own run group, emphasizing driver skill, resulting in close, exciting races.

“PCA is pleased to offer a series for this exciting new race car with our world-class brand of Porsche enthusiast racing,” PCA President Caren Cooper remarks.

Members who are interested in purchasing a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport to race in the series must be licensed PCA Club Racers and complete an application that will be available from the PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy-East series Coordinator, Allen Shirley, at turbo91188@comcast.net. A PCA Club Racing committee will select drivers based on recent racing experience, demonstrated skill, and sportsmanship.

“The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport race series will highlight the spirit of PCA Club Racing and the skills of its drivers,” PCA Club Racing Chair Vicki Earnshaw explains. “Our 25th year of PCA Club Racing will now have a bridge for Porsche racers to step up to the professional ranks through this semi-professional racing series.”

“We are excited about the PCA creating a new platform for Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport customers to compete in,” says Jens Walther, President and CEO of Porsche Motorsport North America. “The new series promises the thrill of close racing and an ideal path into the various Porsche one-make cup series in North America.”

The inaugural races will be held at Road Atlanta (Braselton, GA), followed by Nola Motorsports Park (Avondale, LA), Watkins Glen International Raceway (Watkins Glen, NY), Virginia International Raceway (Alton, VA), Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI), and finish with Daytona International Speedway (Daytona Beach, FL).

Interested parties should contact the PCA Club Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy-East Series Coordinator, Allen Shirley, at turbo91188@comcast.net
My questions:
1) are there any of these out yet?
2) Race in their own run group?
3) what if there is only a couple cars that show up? How would that be handled?

Interesting concept...curious what everyone thinks about it??

I really don't understand the "own run group" thing.

That is going to really mess with the run groups at those races.

How is that going to work at the Glen? There isn't a DE to cut out and that race is packed.

I cannot help, but just to make light of the recent developments in PCA CR (Cayman Racing?). Times they are a changing!

BTW, all of this started when they approved removal of the passenger seats, LOL

I overheard a former PCA officer at one of our DEs last August talking about this, so consider this rumor mongering. There has to be a financial commitment (money upfront) to participate at all the scheduled races to receive an allocation, and I suspect that it only takes off if there are sufficient commitments.

Assumption is a commitment to race the series, all the races.

I have been asking this same question for a while now...since tumors of this emerged.

Cayman Interseries was a spec series with its own races with HSR. Dead. We're all racing these cars (as modified) with PCA in GTB1 now. Dont understand how in the world this is going to work as a separate run group, unless these races are somehow support for a pro weekend and not part of PCA Club Race weekends.

Hopefully it means a split start like the 944 cup usually gets and not a separate run group at the larger races.

You add a separate run group by buying more time from the track. Trust me, they didn't think of this overnight. This series has been a long time coming with regards to planning.

My understanding is that it will not take any time away from the other race groups.

I'm sending my application in tonight!

Hopefully I will be selected to get a car and if so look forward to competing against some of you.
