Wishful thinking, Patrick. Wishful thinking. Merc would have just turned Rosberg loose for a few laps and he would have pulled a gap until DR's tires went off and he could cruise home.

Next year brings big changes to the PU. This is the only reason for my optimism. Wishful thinking, Randy. Wishful thinking.

They had already given Rosberg ALL the beans as evidenced by how suddenly he started doing faster laptimes and the radio comms. While Ricci had used up the best of his tyres catching Nicolette by such great chunks, I think Rosberg would have been ripe for the plucking if Dan was on his tail for a lap or so. Both his brakes and tyres would have waved the white flag under pressure.

Actually I think that Rosberg did drive well considering he had to 'manage' the brakes for most of the race. )Although he was in front under no real pressure for much of the race.) Kind a shame that they didn't bring him in for one last pit stop before Hamilton. Then it would have been a real race to the finish.

Hats off to Rosberg for keeping his cool under pressure. Ricci was driving the wheels off that Red Bull. As far as one more lap goes, shoulda, coulda, woulda...

Imagine a few races ago where Nico wouldn't have been able to get help from his team. Would he have fried his brakes and given the win to Ricciardo? Or would have Mercedes anticipated that, and instructed him beforehand to go a slower pace, and watch Ricciardo pass him anyway?
