I take it easy in the rain so no real input there.

All in all I like 'em!

I was running a GT4 last season and the car was delivered with the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race tires. They lasted me about 3 events. I switched to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s and from my perspective it was definitely an upgrade. I think that the PSC2 is the way to go.

On a side note, I found that the tires are very sensitive to camber. In order for them to wear consistently for me, I needed to run a minimum of 2.5 degrees of negative camber in the front and 2 degrees in the rear. I also needed to get rear toe links for the GT4 (the factor setup is non-adjustable) to be able to achieve that alignment spec. Hope that helps!

What is best/available streetable r-comp rubber on the current market in 255/315 or 245/305 sizes, that preferably does not need shaving? 2 years ago it was NT01, i think, but no one could find them in required sizes - is there anything better for this season to drive to/on/from track, no trailer?

Regards, Paul.
10 years old! that a boy! many here would accuse you as a hazard to all around you on over 5 year old tires.

amazing arnt they.. i just tossed 4 perfect RA1s 305x18 that were from a world challenge race in '04. i just dont use them anymore.(not much street driving anymore) but they were sticky and tanks! I ran them on 10 and 11" rims and they worked great.
i think running the R888 now, since its the same compound, might be a good replacement if you can find the size. (and might need to shave )

I ran them too before they had the 305. great tire!

i have stocked them up back in 2010 - got 5 sets of them and stored them properly... so tires are in OK shape, but, well, old. That last pair got shaved and driven on during 2015 season, in 2016 i had no time to track at all, and hope to get some action this season, hopefully. will see. i regret tossing them, to be honest, they are at perfect 2/32th thread now, no cracks, to visible issues, but, made in 2007 - rear ones. fronts are much newer but i think RA1 changed compound on newer tires and i do not really like it as much as old one. or may be it is just my prejudice.

R888 are great if you use them professionally - means drive them once and toss them. if you wear them out - they have dual compound construction and an inner layer above cord is as slippery as glass - i got into that sh$t only once at autocross and never use R888 again. very nasty stuff, it grips, grips, and then you just spin out like on oil. RA1 can be worn out completely and still grips ok, or, at least does not lose most grip abruptly.

thanks for all confirmations about 315 working well on the 12" rim - it is what i wanted to do to begin with.

NT01s are great but once worn they're no bueno in rain. My last few sets have been Yokohama ADO8R.. Its a trade off, for safety and piece of mind. Tread wear rating a bit higher at 180 vs 100 on the NTs but where I live rain can come any time and make travelling to/from track a really bad experience if the skies let loose. NT definitely quicker and preferred. On the plus side the sidewalls on the Yokos are really stiff and will give you more durability. That being said I do miss the NT01 days.

Although the 295 yokos are good for 11" wheel not sure if they can be stretched for a 12" they are true to size. Cant edit my post for some reason

The Bridgestone RE-71Rs have definately improved lap times on the GT4, and are are considerably less expensive than the Cup2s. https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/9393...-in-a-gt4.html

But only come in smaller sizes - nothing that fits a 12" wide rim. The largest 18" RE71r tire size is 285/30 designed for a 10.5" wide rim.

Recently I had to find the stickiest tire that would fit on my wife's jag, AND still be good in the rain as I did not want her to freak out going over a puddle. The verdict was Continental's ContiForce Contact which is an excellent rain tire, and quicker than the pure street "max performance summer" tires.
