911 as a LONG road trip car?
Have owned a 6th generation Corvette since 2008 and have taken many long road trips with it. I’m talking like 5,000 km trips. Powerful, quiet with the bi-mode exhaust, and the rear hatch carrying capacity is huge for luggage for two people.
I’ve always dreamed of a road trip to the west coast and south, and hope to do it when this virus situation clears.
Bought a 2007 911 TT this past fall and in doing so it raises the question of keeping the Corvette. One determinant to keep or sell is how good the TT would be as my road tripping car.
Right off is the reduced efficiency of luggage space being split behind the seats and the frunk. My wife can’t (or won’t) pack lite, so it’s a thing 😀.
This aside I’m curious to hear from people who have taken long trips with their 997. Any and all input is welcome.
Thanks

Not a 997... but my wife and I did a 7500km road trip over 3 weeks in my '86 911, and to top it off, camped the whole way (Canadian East coast). Point being - the car's suitability really depends on the road tripper, not the car.
I'd think your TT would be a dream for a long road trip... it's a grand tourer. As long as you can manage to fit your wife's luggage... lol

If you can’t fit the luggage get a roof rack and small top box.

I did a 13,000km roadtrip in a 986 S. shouldn’t be an issue if you use the back seats for luggage

She may not be able to pack light, but if you can Tetris.... there is TONS of room for gear.
back seats take soft duffels, and same for the frunk - don’t use hard case anything and you both win.

My dad used to have a Z06 and I've spent a lot of time in most variants of 911s up to 997. I can't possibly imagine you can fit more in a corvette than in a 911. I would wager the 911 has significantly more space in terms of overall volume, though I can see that the vette might have more in a single space. So just buy smaller bags . But seriously, I've done several long road trips (as far as New Orleans) and have never had issues with space. My wife also can't (or won't) pack light. Like, an entire suitcase for toiletries But space has never been an issue.

My wife and I went to Nova Scotia in my 86. She was packed!
There is a lot more room in my 86 911 than my 01 911TT. The front diff kills the frunk.

Did a 14,000km +3 month round trip to California and back 2 winters ago - 2006c4s cab. Hit many classic roads (Blue Ridge, Cherahola etc). Was by myself so plenty of room but as others have said use soft luggage and there's tons of room. Would do it again in heart beat. Let me know when you are going and I'll follow you

I bought my 997.2 in Calgary and drove it back to Toronto by myself in 2018 through Canada along HW1. I have the standard (non sport) 18-way power seats and there were only a few instances where I felt a little fatigued closer to the end of the trip -- my right butt cheek would go numb after a few hours . No big deal, it forced me to stop and check out some more sights in Northern Ontario. But other than that, it's a fantastic touring car and I will hopefully do another road trip like that in a 911 in the future Highly recommended.

I second using soft bags. When I travel long distances in the 928 the hatch is usually full of parts for swap meets and then I use the rear midget seats for soft bags with our clothes etc.

Turbos were made for long road trips!!!
assuming you can pack the luggage, I can’t think of a better car.
Worst thing I can think of is availability of new tire if you get a flat.
