Default LF: Shipping a car from Budapest Hungary to Toronto

Does anyone have first hand experience shipping a car in a container from Hungary or the European Union to Toronto? Want to bring my old 5L Mustang back that I took there in '95.

Talk to Neal at Apex motorcars.

Never dealt with him but he seems to be shipping many newer cars to overseas buyers

Off-Topic but how do you insure a Canadian car to be driven in Europe?

I just used to get tourist car insurance that was either valid in the European Union or if I went outside of it, I bought the tourist car insurance for each country at the border. This was available until about 8 years ago and then the tourist car insurance was not available anymore but by that time my visits were not as regular (every 2 years) as before so I stopped driving the Mustang and just rented a car instead.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know you could get tourist insurance with a North American car. I noticed guys like Ted Gushue from Type 7/Porsche drove their own cars in Europe but on American plates, which made me wonder how this was possible. Neat!

Would the cost of bringing it back be about the same value as the car these days ?

Haven't looked into the prices yet probably will be close. This is more of a sentimental then financial decision, however, theses cars are going up in value. Canadian spec '86 5.0 Mustangs hatchbacks in good shape are not that common anymore. Most have been destroyed by now.

Thanks

I wonder it it would be better to drive the car from hungary to hamburg to ship over here? I wonder what documentation you need. It does not seem that the car was registered over there. I know as far as the EU is concerned, you have to notify customs within 6 months, but this car was brought in before hungary became part of the EU.
