"Police laid 796 stunt driving charges in Toronto between March 1, 2020 and Dec. 31 2020, an increase of 222 per cent over the same period in 2019, she said."
Interesting, GTA statistics quoted, no much about the remainder of the province. I'll speculate the majority of these infractions took place when the highways were almost empty last spring/summer. I suspect charge volume will drop once traffic volume returns to pre-lockdown state.

I spent a summer with her in Cambridge, England when I was in high school. Her father was PM back then. It was one of those organized trips where I stuided OAC English. She was very good looking at that age. Had two RCMP officers following her everywhere.

"Driving is a privilege and those that threaten the safety of others have no place on our roads," she said.
Privileged talking about privileges. We are not too far from "give them the cookies" elaborations.
How pathetic and populist.

Ooof. Now a 40 km/h ticket when passing someone on a remote road will mean having to go to facility for insurance, and likely paying $10,000 a year in my GT3

Give us a break. Update the damned speed limits if you’re going to do these bs penalties.
a few years ago, I was driving outside of ten free Ontario, and it was a one lane each way highway. One side opened up to two lanes for the designated passing areas. I passed a few people and pulled back in. 5 minutes later, I was pulled over and told that a plane caught me doing 45 over. Well, why even have a passing zone? Doing 125 on basically a highway is not a problem. So now, I’d get towed? Wow...
these speed limits were put together a half century ago. Cars are better. Tires are better. Roads are better. Speed limits are the same. The answer must be stiffer penalties. stop playing politics with this.
love the stupid pic of a Lamborghini. There will be way more kids in their parents Jetta’s getting hit.

I think if we had reasonable speed limits in the same way as the UK then we would see less infractions. In BC the speed limit of the Coquihalla was raised to 120kmh and the 85th percentile was 127, the NDP got in a few years ago and dropped it to 110 and the 85th percentile didnt change, just criminalised more drivers. Funny thing was the number of collisions reduced when it was 120 as there was less speed variation
Coquihalla Highway safer 1 year after speed limit raised, says transportation minister | CBC News
Rural roads in the UK are posed anywhere from 40mph to 60 mph (60-90kmh) with national highways posted at 70mph (112kmh)
Mind you better driver training would also go a long way here

better driver training would mean actual road safety improvements but less policing revenue, and the sheep would complain their poor driving is a right and not a privilege, gotta play both sides right of that argument to buy a vote right.. ...nah instead of advancing Ontario by increasing productivity and evolving a progressive culture, let's just 'tax' everyone who works hard and actually makes this society work...

Can't do that because that's huge loss in revenue in car sales, bodyshop and car insurance business...
It's just like they have to keep the LCBO/Beer store open during the pandemic... got to keep those alcoholics happy. Huge alcohol fueled domestic/child abuse increase during lockdown? Not the government's problem...

Actually i am in the vast minority but i dont have a problem with most of it... street racing stunting i really don't car if you lose your license for life... i was coming home late one night doing about 130 middle lane of the 401 and two mustangs came by must have been doing close to 200+ one down either side racing down the 401 at the same time, scared the cap out of me as i wasn't expecting it. I didnt even see them coming up behind me. There are many on here that im sure think " that is really cool"
The only thing i have an issue with is the general speeding part. yeah its easy to go through a reduced speed area doing 110 in a 70 on a country road . Do i deserve a ticket for not paying attention and being an idiot ? absolutely i do. Do i deserve facilitators insurance and feel like im being treated as a criminal ? im not so sure about that.
