Default O/T. importing a car from Canada into US

Given the crazy dealer surcharges in the US these days for cars, I am thinking it might be worthwhile buying one here, keeping it for a while and then bringing it down to the US.

US built car. Not sure what duty it would attract and how old it would have to be to bring it across.

I am aware of the US rules but only thing that would need to be changed would be speedo.

Does anyone know what barriers there are to do this?

You'll need a US broker.

2.5% to import it to the US. you could probably just leave it registered in Canada since you seem to come back often enough. Since it is your car you might not need to import it just license it temporarily in the US. Sorry not don't know the answer.

That's helpful actually- did it before with the old SL but in this case the dealer surcharge on Jeeps there is ridiculous so will see how total cost breaks out.

If not driving yourself a broker and a Temporary Import Bond is required if bringing it back.

This; if you maintain an address in Canada, is the way to go.
