I'm having a sense of deja vu, or the space time continuum has been corrupted. I think I saw this being discussed a couple years ago, but the thread says it was started yesterday?

I'm not rich enough to hire people to do stuff at my house.

Funny as this exact thing happened to me. Long story but we had a contractor do a bunch of work at our cottage a few years ago and he charged us an insanely low price for a fairly large scope of work. Did a great job too. It's in a small town/area so we figured that was going rate.

When it came time to pay him (all cash of course) I just happened to drive my 911 to the cottage that weekend as I was meeting my wife there. I saw him pull in, look at the car, and his eyes almost fell out of his head. We then had him quote some additional minor work (1/4 of the original job) and his price was over 2x the original deal. Shocking news.

I just would like to add also, if you haven’t had work done in the last 5-6 years, prices have gone up substantially…labour and material.

We don’t typically do small jobs but if I can be of assistance to anyone feel free to reach out.
I’ll bring my Porsche, so no one needs to hide any cars. LOL.

I lived in a less desirable part of town for years. Currently live in a gated CC community and it makes no difference on the cars. The minute contractors come into the community theres automatically a bump in price for where we live. Comparing prices for comparable work at the old place vs new there is definitely a difference to the high side for the same work. It is what it is.

But aren't you getting a S/T?

I’d gladly take one, no ST.

I’m actually done with cars for a while, happy with the current garage and frankly have no patience anymore for it. So many games and hoops to jump through to get what you want, but that’s another thread/topic on its own.

I was told recently by a landscaping contractor that the price of wood has actually come down so the quote on our job is now lower? Any truth to that?

p.s. Nice portfolio of work.

Lumbar prices fluctuate constantly but compared to Covid times, yes dramatically has come down. But still higher than pre covid. Across suppliers it can vary a fair bit too.

Good labour shortage has increased prices across the board.

Things like quality textiles, lighting, fixtures…all up generally too. I’m sure a lot of these price increases are done just because they can.

Thank you. We try. I need to update the website it’s been a few years.

I'm in the same boat with respect to cars and on top of all you mentioned we now have to deal with theft/car jackings, so much better off leaving those funds in the mkt for now...

If you're hiding your car, you're not effectively negotiating. Perhaps it has a little to do with "framing" as they say in behavioral economics, but you should have a negotiation strategy before they arrive that doesn't include your car.

Negotiating may work in other parts of the countries (or in the US judging by your signature) but in really high demand markets with a shortage of skilled labour, it doesn't work too well.

Sadly some contractors are so busy they're willing to just "hail mary it" if they see signs of wealth. You're just getting added to a queue a year out anyway, plenty of time to build the backlog.

I have lots of customers with really nice cars and I have never seen one of them. Lots of them do drive $100,000 trucks though.
