I was talking to one of my colleagues. Anytime they have a contractor over to do work around the house, they always parks Porsche in garage or around the corner. They say, contractors see a Porsche, price goes up.

I have never done any such thing. I don't show them the garage unless it is work being done in the garage. I've heard about not displaying jewelry when having stuff delivered like a mattress, but parking car around the corner seems ridiculous to me.

Yes always. Porsche tax is easily extended to renos.

Absolutely hide whatever is expensive. Few years back had my Cayenne in the driveway. Exterior contractor came, commented on the Cayenne. Quote came in at a couple grand less to refinish than replacing with all new material from another company. Told them, suddenly the price dropped to about half their quote. Didn't give them the business. Replaced with all new. I had always parked the car elsewhere but that time did not, and proved my thoughts correct.

I saw a contractor I used once at a Porsche dealer event. He was shocked to see me and sheepish about telling me about his vehicle. He had never driven his Porsche to my house, rather his work truck. I can understand this perspective too.

I am not an entrepreneur. Just don't have it in me. I respect those that do it. I don't like to think that people avail themselves of opportunities based on observation versus treating customers fairly and equitably. Grocery charges based on their price, not a persons ability to pay.

Yeah, I try to see the best in people, become utterly disappointed, and the just H8PPL.

I do not. Have had the same contractor for most work on house for many years and know him well. Whoever is outside is outside, though most of the 911 stuff is at the office or in the garage. Still sometimes it's on the street. More exposed to car thieves than thieving contractors.......

I got a discount from a contractor when they saw my Boxster because they felt sorry for me and said "My truck is worth more than this!"

I think it would be ludicrous to hide your car for any reason. If you're being hit with a "Porsche tax" it's because you haven't done your homework and know the price of products or services, or you don't know how to negotiate. I once had a large developer client, and the CEO/owner queried me about my driving a 911 to the job site (I did marketing/app dev for them). He didn't want people to know what he owned, so he always used a company truck. "You think your workers don't know you have a McLaren? I've had multiple conversations about my car...and yours...with your people. You should bring it to the site and use it as a way to engage them in discussion." Next day he brought the McClaren to the site.

Drive your car or don't. Hiding it like some wuss because you're afraid of what people will think or do is nuts.

Jesus, we are just talking about not flaunting things when getting quotes. It’s called common sense.

Yeah, two BMWs in the driveway and two Porsches in the garage and a couple fence repair quotes were $2300.00 and $3000.00. Close the garage door and park one BMW on the street, and the final quote was $750.00

I just had the same for a simple shower. He saw a restoration under way in my garage and his quote was 25k We just hired a contractor for 15k.

since Macans and Cayennes are like Corollas in Toronto, I would say some are over inflating the value of their cars.

Common sense is right. Keep the garage door down at all times.

Some of these guys love being taken advantage of it seems.

i agree, some new kia or what ever brand are more expensive then a few years old macan/cayenne
