Default Car Rallies Banned in Vaughan

Very loosely worded. Seems to me it leaves a lot of room for interpretation by leo

there's a simple test to determine whether or not something is illegal. people scatter and run away like little girls when the police show up.

Lol what a joke. How do they determine the difference between someone parked for shopping vs parked for car rally?

Another simple test - the number of fart cans attached to said parked cars 😀

My buddies a cop with Peel Police and said meets last year or "gatherings" were starting to get out of hand. He showed me videos and when these meets start to incorporate fire crackers and smoke machines its not just a regular car meet. More of a take over...

I wish Engineered Automotive returned to hosting the weekend meets at their location. It was killer seeing the widest variety of marques in a single place...

Anyone know if other good meets?

I wonder if such a decree would withstand a Charter of Rights court challenge, specifically re §2(b) and (c) re freedom of expression and freedom of assembly, especially in light of a federal court ruling that found that government actions during the trucker convoy protest violated some of their charter rights.

Not sure if firecrackers and smoke machines change a gathering from peaceful to violent.

Might be right but it'd probably be way too expensive to find out. Too bad car clubs can't get together on stuff like this and in particular the ethanol issue.

It doesn't take more than a few rotten apples to ruin the bushel. Smoke machines and fireworks are not 'violent' per se. But, it's anti-social behavior, and the LEOs are correct to shut it down until the behavior changes.

I can understand how some of the "takeovers" and other excessive behaviors have bought this on. Unfortunately, the resulting clampdown is so broadly worded that a bunch of people meeting up in a coffee shop parking lot to socialize and admire and talk about cars seemingly would fit the definition of "car rally" as described in the link.

On the one hand, I believe the police would not be interested in enacting enforcement on respectful congregations like this, but on the other hand, the fines are punitive enough that I would not want to try...
