OT: Selling a Rolex privately?

I never got into watches, mainly due to the preferred tax treatment on dividends...

Thanks guys. When I bought my first couple of Rolexes 20 years ago, they were purchased at 25 and 30% off MSRP from an AD - that was the market then. I still got 13% off of my son’s Sub in Dec 2017. I never bought them as investments, but it’s nice that the 5 digit Sub I wear every day has increased in value from $4,200 to $12,000. I hadn’t bought a new watch in over 15 years when I decided to get into them as another hobby (2017/2018). That’s when I bought the Daytona. Unfortunately, about 6 months later the Rolex world went crazy and started having waitlists etc., so I gave up on the idea of that hobby and never really kept up with what was happening. A few days ago I was checking out some watch forums and saw the Daytona pricing and thought about selling it. I also didn’t realize that the list price was $19,350 now. That’s up $5k from when I bought mine.
I was reading a few forums last night and it appears that the games are coming to an end ‘normal’ people (not the ultra-wealthy) are getting the call from their ADs to come in and pick up their watches.

I know a number of you are big time watch guys, so I thought I would ask where you guys sell your watches? I have a SS white ceramic Daytona that I bought new in 2018 from Raffi’s. To be honest, I have barely worn it (it sits in a safety deposit box at the bank). I’m just not comfortable walking around wearing it now that they are so expensive. At the peak they were well over $60k, but they appear to be $40k-$45k now, so I’m thinking about selling. I guess I’m just not “baller” enough to pull off a Daytona
Personally I would keep it and wear it in good health. But if you decide to sell it you shouldn't have a problem as the Panda is highly sought after just like the 993's and 964's.
The dam Rolex store will only sell you one if you have spent over $100K in their store.

At one point your Panda was trading for well over $65K CAD and like you said the market for watches are crazy out there.

I was lucky and bought mine when “bundling” was the current trend. I bought a Sub, a DJ and the Daytona at the same time. It worked out for me because I wanted to give watches to my wife and son anyway. Now, you need to be an extremely high roller to get one - I just lucked out I guess. It is a beautiful watch. I just feel weird wearing a car on my wrist in my tax bracket 😀. To be honest, I thought about selling and putting the money into another 993!

Thanks! My 5 digit Sub is my daily and I love that watch. Will likely keep the Daytona too. My wife suggests to wear it more this summer and then decide. Smart woman!

I sold my gold YM2 on Kijiji to a reseller. The guy sent me ~$45k transfer without even meeting in person or before he had the watch. We had chatted for a couple weeks via txt msg and I had sent him a pic of my DL.
I had dropped the watch a day or two later to his friend as he was in another city.
There is good people to deal with out there, but there is scammers so beware. (I just got scammed for $1400 with a fake EMT selling an iphone... first time ever being scammed, live and learn)

Ourch! Sorry to hear that! I don't think I could do the Kijiji route on a watch. I'd likely sell on CWC.
