HOV lanes

I've used them all the time as we have 2 of the hated EV's.
You're really not missing much. I don't drive to the GTA much, or on the 400 series highways. I took it on Tuesday for a bit as we were going down to the Yonge/Lawrence area for nephew's bday cake. it was ok. Still took us 50 mins to get from Toronto Premium Outlets down to Yonge/Lawrence.
Not sure if it's any faster than the other lanes if you obey the rules.... I mean if you're happy with 120kph, you're golden. On the times that I often Often the live traffic lanes can be going faster... I find the times I get on it, I'm stuck behind a little 10 yr old kia with an old couple in the front seats going 110kph....

So much this. Make the HOV lane 2 people plus from 6am to 9am and 3pm-6pm. Driving home at 8pm and the HOV lane is empty, while the 2 regular lane are mildly jammed. More government incompetence.

I have seen police at the entrance to the tunnel from the 404 SB to the 401 WB, but that is the only time I have seen checks being done.
We won't reduce congestion in the GTA until it is easy to use public transportation. You can get downtown OK, but anywhere else is a nightmare. Maybe things will start to change with full-time bi-directional GO service.
But if you live in Ajax and work in Mississauga, there is no way to get there other than drive, so the 401 will remain a parking lot.

Many of my neighbors are working from home. You'd think that would make a difference, but when you're adding 500k immigrants a year, I guess not

i can tell you they are used more by single drivers with dark tint than multiple drivers. I use the west end 401 a lot and have NEVER seen anyone getting pulled over..
As mentioned in an earlier thread , its usually out of frustration of people " camping" in the passing lane thinking people will go to HOV to pass.
I of course see a disproportionate amount of guys in pickup trucks by themselves. To be expected i find.

Ahhh all the hillbillies in pick up trucks ... I see and deal with them daily downtown here..... They think they can drive the same way downtown as they do in the sticks ... Then they get upset because they are piddiling down the road and all the cars cut in front of them.

Yes - I've seen them there myself on a number of occasions, most recently a month or so ago. I don't often have a passenger so am not a regular HOV lane user, but yes, they are enforcing it where they hide.
