Default Hima Maher (Riegel Tuning) killed in avalanche

Very sad news, he will be greatly missed.

Victims of weekend avalanche identified

Taken from the Calgary Herald:

Calgary's Sheilesh Dave, left, and Hima Maher were killed in an avalanche while skiing in a permanently closed area of the Kicking Horse Mountain ski resort in Golden, B.C.

The two Calgary men killed in an avalanche at Golden's Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Saturday have been identified by family and friends as Hima Maher and Sheilesh Davé.

The pair had skied into a permanently closed area within the resort's controlled recreation area Saturday afternoon when they triggered the avalanche that swept them down the slope.

Two acquaintances they had been with, who had decided not to ski into that area, immediately called for help. But when rescuers recovered the two men, they could not be revived.

Sheilesh was a well-respected periodontist who had grown up in Calgary, his family said in a statement they released Monday afternoon.

He leaves behind a wife and two children, along with other family.

Maher also leaves behind two daughters.

Maher owned an automotive shop, specializing in high-end performance cars. He was also known for his passion for race car driving, locally and in the U.S

Yeah...very sad news. I met him a few years ago at a Porsche event. He seemed like a very likeable guy. I was planning on taking my 964 to his shop sometime in April to get it ready for the driving season.

This is very sad news. My thoughts go to his family. He was well thought of in Wild Rose Region and I remember him as a capable and driven competitor at the support races for the Molson Indy in Vancouver.

First met Hima when he tried motorcycle racing in Calgary.........many years ago now but recall foundly his enthusiasim.

When I bought my 928 it was his shop I turned to for the pre purchase inspection and subsequent repairs. He shone very brightly in the shop and on the track with his car racing career.

RIP Hima...........condolences to his family.

I have been taking my 964 to Riegel since purchase, and found Hima to be very knowledgeable, courteous and accommodating. I always looked forward to catching him at the shop and enjoying a few minutes of Porsche chat when dropping off or picking up my car. Still shocked and saddened by this news, my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and close friends. RIP Hima.

Wow - what a shocker... I was just speaking with Hima over the phone last week after he did a local PPI for me. I never actually got a chance to meet him in person but the few times I spoke with him on the phone he came across as a very professional, credible, and honest individual.

My sincere condolences to both his family and the Dave' family.

You may want to read the message from Hima's shop on their website.
