Default Your Daily Driver / Family Car

Just wondering what mileage people have on their daily drivers these days.... I've attempted to create a poll to help tabulate the results.

NA - North American (GM,Ford,Chrysler)
Asian - Honda, Toyota, Kia, Lexus etc etc
European - VW, Volvo, MB, BMW etc etc.

Current mileage
under 150K km
150-250K km
250-350K km

We have a 2003 CRV - 213K km, and a 02 Jetta 1.8T 191K km.

I'm thinking that some of you like keeping your cars around for a while.

My neighbor just passed 1 million km this summer on an early 1990's Lexus. No intenal engine work.

My DD, also the family vehicle- Toyota 4runner with 1806kms... It's a 2011, that replaced a 2005, that replaced a 2000! Wa always want one reliable vehicle, and an SUV with a large storage area suits our lifestyle best, bikes, camping, travel, cottage, and a short while back, twins! It's amazing how much room two little people take-up.
Wife drives a 2006 Lexus IS250 awd, only 36k on it.
The C2 is my summer car.

2000 Durango with 234,000km as tow vehicle/daily driver/family truckster/jump truck/garbage bin.
1992 Mercedes 300 TE with 365,000 km being replaced with a 2000 BMW 5-series wagon in 5 days.

Downtown street parking limits quality of daily driver... too many thefts, break-ins, dents, scratches, in recent years to justify buying anything better.

1988 924S SP2 track car with 55,000kms, Competition Ledas, 968 sways, solid bushings, short 5th, LSD, custom exhaust, etc all done right....

...other collectable vehicles not listed for privacy reasons...

Wow!

You guys are in a much higher income bracket! I'm trying to hold on to our daily driver's/ family cars as long as possible, (so I can afford the Pcar). I also want to be done full-time work by the time I'm 50.

We do about 50,000km each year for pleasure, commutes, vacation between all our vehicles. (I work FT, my wife works PT)

I thought I read somewhere that 10yrs old was the new 7 (in terms of auto ownership).

Luckily, our DD's have been very reliable during their lives so far.

2000 Volvo V70 - 230k - sold my 96' Volvo 850 with 330k (that's right sold not scrapped - and it passed smog test with flying colours)

2002 Honda CRV - 100k - my wife's car that was used for multiple years with a 8km round trip commute

I intend on keeping both for a few more years - may buy a new CRV but the wagon is great for hauling stuff when I need it.

2001 Honda Odyssey, my wife's car, 141,000 km, effin' CEL just came on. Not used to these with a 72 911

2005 Smart fortwo cabrio diesel, 86,000 km, my car. I bought it for the inventory, but after driving it for 4000 km I love it so much I'm just going to keep it and drive it. The gas savings will pay for the car in less than 3 years. Picking up snow tires for it tonight.

I don't have a daily driver (per se) I switch between vehicles based on what my day is, the weather and how I feel.

1978 Ford F250 Service Truck - complete rebuild - ugly but all new mechanical (21K worth) 1,200 since rebuild

1988 Dodge Dakota service truck - All original - ugly but runs great - 56,000

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 too big and too nice to drive regularly - used for trips and towing travel trailer - 42,000

2003 Chevrolet Malibu - excellent condition except for all the door dings. Used for shopping and local family trips so the dingbats have a target to hit when their rats swing their doors open 41,000

2001 996TT 17,000 pleasure only

Well almost. It would be if I wasn't too lazy and left the timing belt for 275 000kms. Last spring it finally jumped but when I took it all apart, it was still in an excellent condition. The head was very clean and the cylinders still ahd the honing marks. But it was cheaper to buy a replacement engine (220 000km) than to fix the head and get new gaskets. So, if it wasn't for my laziness, is still would have the same engine. The turbo is still original, and so are the acessories (the AC clutch went a few years ago so I replaced it with a used one).

The valve cover didn't come off till 475K km. I did buy it with 200K and the previous owner just replaced the timing belt but, the water pump and tensioner/roller looked original when it jumped.

The more you drive them the more then last. I put 50K/year on it. Planning to get a minimum 600K out of it. By then, the body might be going on it but will see.
