While it's true that the 991 will be available with 7 speed manual or PDK, that picture is of the 997 interior.

it's a photoshop - that's a 997 dash.

however in the officially released 991 video, you can see the additional dog leg (or whatever you call it since it goes up - "dog arm?") for the 7th forward gear. screenshot below:

Where in the world would you ever need a 7th gear on these cars !! In 5th your already doing 200 or something

Having 6 now, I never never use more then 5 gears. 5th is barely used unless I'm at the track.

this is aimed at lowering porsches fuel economy numbers. the 7th gear at highway cruising speed is going to lower the rpm's significantly.

Seven speeds allow better spacing between gears while improving highway cruise fuel economy.

Closely spaced gears = fun driving
Tall final gear = fuel economy

That's having the cake and eating it as well.
