Private party sale through 6speedonline.com

A friend pointed me to the forsale add. It's incredibly nerve wracking sending some stranger $6500 but I don't have a choice. I can't afford anything else.

The payment cleared last week and he's apparently packing it up today to ship out so I'll let you know how that all works out. My butterflies won't be gone until it's in and running though.

(Coming from California BTW)

You didn't send the cheque to Nigeria, did ya?

On a serious note, you can easily to a compression and leakdown test before putting it into the car.

Internet hype? The sound like marbles bouncing around in your engine is sickening. The M96 engine is a cruel joke produced by Porsche as cheap as possible. I will never own a water cooled Porsche again unless it is a GT3 or a turbo. I'm especially unimpressed by the 997 and 991's which appear to be produced for the masses.

Porsche has turned into just another mainstream car company.

Hi
Newbie wantabe Porsche owner here ...:-) Don't want to thread jack ...but ..question ... has anyone ever done an oil analysis to look for EARLY signs of an IMS bearing or similar engine problems ?

Click here for Irving or click here for wear check url's ...

OK --it is really aimed for commercial transport and not for sports cars ... but ... the cost of missing a IMS bearing ( as we have all read here or numerous other threads ) is HUGE.

I just have yet to ever read of anyone doing these ...
but think I might 'try' to get one done when I find the right car ...anyways I have a sample kit the rep from Valvoline dropped me off (uses Wearcheck I think ) and would be happy to send it to another Canadian user to try if you would post back the results ...

Typically these kits cost $15 and your courier fee to get the oil to the lab ... it has been years (yep -I am that old ) since I have talked about oil testing ... I am not trying to sell anything ... I am a partner in 3 auto parts stores and sold the Corvette ... and this winter I find the right Pcar. To me oil testing seems the right think fir 997.1's ??

I've seen lots of discussion of guys doing it in the 996 forum. But it's really best when used regularly so you can establish a baseline and watch for variations, from what I understand.

For your purposes, I have heard that some guys will pop the oil filter off for inspection (looking for ferrous metal) and then replace with a new filter and top up the oil. A vendor may object to this. IDK

I'm planning to just that. Remove the filter and go over it with a magnet.

lots of guys use I think blackstone for oil analysis. another option is the Lnr replacement bearing or the IMS guardian.

IMS guardian is an interesting concept.

So any news.

I was also thinking maybe that picking up a salvage Porsche just for the engine is a good idea. Anyone ever to it before. I am sorta looking for other options as well.

Lot of flood victims here. salvage autos auction

I found a motor at a reputable shop in Toronto. I'm just awaiting a little extra money to go down and pick it up. Salvage could work but its a big risk.
