The year I was there to watch it, there were 7 fatalities. I believe the average for the two week festival is 5 deaths. The vast majority of the course is narrow roads with rock walls on either side with no padding.
The Isle of Man was settled by Vikings, and there are (or used to be) 700 licensed establishments for 70,000 residents.

Let me know....
I'm now officially a *****. I've hit similar speeds on two wheels, but not catching air and trying to turn at the same time......Sweet Jesus...I thought we were nuts back in the day....

Definitly on my to do list before...i dunno, wife and kids i suppose.
FYI, most of the fatalities occur on "Mad Sunday" when the course is open to the public and any punter on two wheels can ride it. While it is definitly a huge risk for the pros as well, incidents with them are rarer thankfully. When they do happen though, it's usually mega.
See connor cummin's crash below, and keep this in mind: HE CAME BACK AND RACE NEXT YEAR! I don't know how it's even possible to have brass like that.

I download the whole week of races off ITV (16gb this year) - the sidecars are crazy! Every year they loose a few of the monkeys - sometimes the rider doesn't know until the next corner when he loses it because he hasn't got the added weight shift of his missing buddy. It usually isn't pretty. There was one year when a rider in the super sport class hit a seagull climbing the mountain part of the course and died. You don't as much win one of the classes as much as be the guy with the craziest lack of imagination...

That is a gorgeous bike! Do you track it? I'm guessing that's a stupid question given your interest in road racing...
