all fluids changed
new windshield wipers
car fully detailed including a hard wax
new snow tires and new rims
new front break pads
and $4000.00 trade-in value on my current car (an 03 Hyundai Tiburon GT)
He came back with:
$44500.00
one engine oil change
used snow tires and rims
yes to the detailing
yes to the windshield wipers
2000-2800 trade-in value on my car (which is essentially fair)
and nothing else.
I asked him to move just a bit more on the price and he wouldn't.

Can the mods move this to wherever is appropriate?
Sorry if I posted in the wrong place

I don't know the cayman market at all, so can't speak to value, but looking at what they've done to sweeten the deal, it looks pretty good to me. Remember, at the end of the day they need to make a profit. Though admittedly I'm sure their overhead is ridiculously high, and their sales staff is probably pretty well paid.

Yah, if he had come down on price or added-in a few things I would have pulled the trigger. But now I am questioning whether or not it was still a good deal. The majority of people I talk to seem to think not so I want the opinion of the Porsche enthusiasts here.

I buy my cars for the long run. I also drive them as they were advertised believing in their heritage. When Porsche made the m96/m97 they made it for profit and not longevity you may be ok with a 3.4l since it isn't pushing the limits but anything larger with higher compression does.
Not to scare you but I would this is interesting reading.

1. Condition of the Car - is it the condition that you want?
2. Make and Model - is it the car that you want?
3. Colour has a role.
4. Price - probably dependent on availability, if you're not happy with the price, and willing to travel / work to get one cheaper, then walking away is an alternative.
Porsche - you're buying a brand that was not cheap when new. Some would say overpriced. (myself included).
I don't think there are too many used Porsches on the market that I would classify as a steal.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. So it seems that the 08 cayman s can have catastrophic engine failure due to a ims bearing failure? Makes me feel a bit better about walking away though I am still thinking like I want the car. hmmm...
Any more advice/thoughts are appreciated

Well with 160k and 2 years. I'd take the chance and drive it as much as possible. If you looking to keep it after warranty then you at your own risk. IMS is only one issue. Cylinder scoring is another. We don't know if this is not an issue with the 9A1 engine, only time will tell. Unfortunately it's reared it's head with the Cayenne engines.
So given that this is a porche warrantied car you think the deal is worth it?

To me it's worth it if your going in knowing it's a 2 year car. Could I find better car for cheaper that wouldn't need any warranty. Yes and much better performing ones.

At that price range originally posted. Get a mezger engine which comes with the 996 Turbo and 996 GT3 or go to the older engine that came out prior to the m96/m97 like with a 993. Starting to get out out of the price range would be 2009+ Cayman S and 2009 911's. The Mezger engine has proven to be bullet proof. The 9A1 engines are an improvement but havn't been around that long. Though they are used it in the 997.2 Turbo which says something.
