Cost of tires in Canada
Why does it cost double to buy the same tire in Canada, as opposed to the USA?
WTF?
I guess i am ordering from Tire Rack from now on.
mini rant over.

I just ordered a set of Hankook V12 tires for my 911 from Discount tire direct. They were about $150.00 cheaper than Tire Rack. The taxes and brokerage is supposed to be included, but we will see when they get here.

I use TR when I'm buying both tires and wheels, but it's usually not worth it to only buy tires.
My local shop has decent enough pricing after getting squeezed a bit.

Its easy order your tires from Tire Rack have them delivered to Bellingham (pick a shop) go to Seattle for the weekend and the delta pays for the holiday and drive home!!!

Last time I bought tires I ordered from 1010tires (Canadian). Final landed price was within a few dollars of the American companies (tire rack doesn't carry toyo anymore), so i figured I'd rather keep my $$ in Canada, if it's the same price.

we also have a market about 10% the size of the US.
I have a hard time believing you can buy any tires in Canada for same as in the US, when picked up in the US. If you ship from one state to another no tax, our 13.5% takes a toll on our wallets.

I ordered a set of Hankook V12, shipped to my door it came to $919. The price they quote on DIscount tire direct is the final price, no additional duty/taxes, fees, etc. They were also having a $100 Visa promo back then so I applied and got a $100 Visa Gift card, so teh set came to $819. Cheapest I could get here was 1100+HST.

WC11 nailed it. Because we could. I worked for one of the Big 3 for 7 years and the Americans would drool over the margins we achieved in Canada. Costs were identical but we could command a higher price on every sku we even forced Walmart and CTC to pay higher prices up here vs the US.
PS I now shop south of the border only for tires.
