Default Buy or don't buy?

Help me before I spend too much. A US dealer wants $40K US for this Detroit '93 c2 g50 with 64,000 miles.

Is that too much in today's market and/or do any of you have a similar Ontario car that you'd part with for less hassle and hopefully less $?

I have to decide by opening of business on Monday.

Price seems high - but, is a low mileage C2.
Any maintenance / service history?
Has it had a ppi yet?
I would think a pristine, concourse C2 may fetch $40 - but low 30's is what I would have thought they'd go for (based on recent cars that I have seen listed).

There was a red C2 for sale recently in Alberta I believe.

What's going to cause more grief:
Paying (close to) $40 for it? or
Passing on it and regretting it for years to come??

The suspension has been done but I haven't seen the logbook yet so some records are spotty.
I've already talked to a guy who'll do the ppi.
The low miles are great but don't clutches, etc. all start to go at 65,000 miles?

Pm me that link to the Alberta car

It looks minty fresh... but you're looking at 55k by the time you get it registered in Canada. Which seems really high to me. Not sure what happened to all the 964 C2s but they are getting pretty rare. At these prices... I'd look for a 993 you can still get them for low 30s USD.

Some will say the 964's have surpassed 993's in desirability. Current pricing reflects this. An RS recently topped $200k at auction in Europe.

Are 964's worth these new, stratosperic prices? Yes, if that's what people will pay. If cheaper cars aren't available, then this becomes the going rate. Classic market forces at work.

I was talking to Michael last week... at that point he was torn between a 993 and a 964, but 993s were too expensive. Quantity wise there seems to be alot more 993s and 964s right now, I know back in the fall I saw them on autotrader for 25k USD all day long. Just saying that at close to $60k CAD the 964 doesn't seem to be the BEST value 911 out there like they were last year.

If this colour (color) combination is what you want, and it has the options you are looking for, then pounce. Otherwise it seems priced high... The $50K-$60K this will cost you could buy a lot of other P-cars that are currently advertised. Not sure this is a good purchase.... IMHO

Michael,
I believe the price is on the higher end of the spectrum. However, if this is an original paint vehicle, with these low miles, providing it has extensive recorded history and clean PPI, its worth the $40K (I can not believe I am saying this) No history - $3K. Whatever the PPI uncovers subtract it from the $40K as well.
I love the Midnight Blue. I had a Boxter S in that color.

Wow. Huge price, but if it comes back clean, you should consider pulling the trigger. Beautiful colour, and a '93 to boot.

Only thing "missing" are sport seats and probably the leather dash. Very desirable IMHO. There will be quite a few rubber pieces that will be shot, even at that mileage. Cost to repair and replace can add up. But that's all part of the fun.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Point taken, and I know that I recently offered two 993 owners $40 cad for their cars but today it's the 964.(sorry AM)
The question was, is this the 964 for me at this high price

How about this? If you can get this for $40-$42K it's a lot more car for the money.
