Default Memories of my 944

So I got talked into watching Sixteen Candles with my wife tonight. ...wasn't so bad because I woke up just in time to see my old 944 on TV. Have you been watching a movie and suddenly see one of your old cars that you wish you never sold? Wow, I can even remember the sound of the door when it closed at the end of the movie. Now that's when you know you miss a car.

Yup, that's the same one I sold (also shown in my current avatar). ..."you never know what ya got, 'til it's gone."

Yep,I bought a 944T and absolutely love it.I am leaning more towards track now and the turbo just sings when it's in it's zone.

Mind you,a 78 911 and I wouldn't be looking back either. I think what I miss the most is it was my first Porsche. That always holds a lot of sentiment with people.

They were great fun weren't they ..the simplicity of the car was great. Fairly easy to understand the drivetrain. Handled like it was on rails ...can't remember how many tail-gaiters tried to follow me into a ramp at speed ...always loved that part of owning one.

Why not have both? I'm never getting rid of my 924S... such a great car, and my first Porsche. I'd probably part with my 968 before my 924S, though I admit it looks ten times nicer. I plan to get a newer 911 one day but I'm always gonna keep that 924S. It's a Porsche I can actually work on without removing the *$@#ing engine every time, lol.

Woah! Speaking of movies, I'm watching The Matrix, and I just saw a silver 944 for literally less than a second as they're driving to visit the Oracle. I spend too much time looking at these cars, lol. Can't believe I even recognized it all blurry and out of focus.

If you still have the VIN you can easily track it down.

Greetings fellow 944 owners/ex-owners. Fairly fresh to both P-cars and Renlist. Got myself in a P-car world two years ago after a long time waiting for it. Since then, on and around Rennlist, now officially as Member.

My story. Got a hold of a very nice 951 from USA. Two years after slowly getting to understand I need to fulfill dream to a full 911 level. Close to get into 996 or even 997 world, even though I would not mind 964s OR 993. It will come I know and I am not in rush.

But, this post found me dead on spot. So, as I said it’s been some time now I am seriously looking into 911 ownership. And more I look into it I can not figure out how am I going to part with this 951. And I almost haven’t started going on the track seriously. Just tried DDT on Mosport two-three weekends ago and was blown away with this little car. And can’t have both cars as I barley have any spare time to be beside even single one. If I let this little red car go one day I am 100% sure I will regret that decision for the rest of my life. And, yes, I am a gear head and I already did a whole bunch of wrenching on her – keeping her down to bare stock other then Koni sports conversion.

Hmmm, my two cents.
Take care and I guess see you around.

Lemikson, that's a stunning example of really nice 944. There is something about a mint all OE car. And yes, V996, although most would prefer to upgrade to the 911s for their higher quality and power, I still prefer the ergonomics of the seat positioning and shifting up on a console as opposed to the lower floor shifter... (I'll probably get a few opinions debating that theory) but everybody's got their own preference for interior design. The interiors of the 911 obviously far surpass the 944 in quality and instrumentation but there's something about the body and arm length positioning in a 944 that is so appealing to me that it's truly my favorite for drivability so far. Love those cars!

Yeah I do. A little while ago I did a search and found it had been to auction twice and had body repair claims. Was bought from auction and put back in on the road in 2013.
So she lives in some sort of state.

A shame for a 944 that sold for 15 grand.

Wow Lemikson. Very nice car.

Having driven some really nice examples of 911's and 944's, I personally love the 944 platform. The sound, the mystique, and the heritage of the 911 are certainly a draw and one day I will own one too, but the 944, especially as a track car, is just magic. The 944 is also so practical, easy to work on, easy to get parts for, and in the case of my supercharged example, plenty quick. Both cars have their merits but for me the 944 is the winner on so many levels.
