Default What are the Ontario rules to t/f car title to spouse?

No, not the GT3..

However, thinking of leaving the SL in Arizona permanently and avoiding the long tow. Would have to t/f the car to wife first as it is in my name. Then she could at some stage import it.

Questions are:

(1) Is there any tax due on transferring the car or can it be done at a nominal value?

(2) Once transferred, does anyone know how long she has to own it before transferring it the US without an import duty?....

Hard to find answers on the Ontario website. Would be grateful if anyone has some information.

No tax if you sell to wife or kids in Ontario. Sign a declaration, whole truth nuttin` but the truth thing and I think get an appraisal.Been a while. As for US shouldn`t matter it hers now. She`s on the insurance as well so should be no problem.

And no safety required either as the Government theory is that you wouldn't transfer an unsafe vehicle to your spouse...

you just pay some admin fees. as far as importing to US, I would contact us customs (you can email the buffalo border at buffalovinnyoffice@dhs.gov
let me know if you require an appraisal contact me but I think you need a lawyer declaration.

no Tax, no test, go to ontario service and pay $10 admin fee...you and your spouse need to be there...dont sign any paper in advance... you will sign everything there in front of a commissioner

As others said, it is indeed a very simple process with no tax payment involved (been there, done that before). Straight from the horse's mouth:

I cannot speak for the import into the US, but check out this link from CBP, which provides information and (more importantly) links to the EPA and DOT for specific requirements:

Good luck

I think you can just add your wife's name to the title. The reason I know is that my P car's only in my name and the wife wanted to be on the title so the registration office informed me that I can add my wife by completing paperwork required.
