OT: New Used Car Safety Standards on the way.
#16
All the hype about unsafe $hitboxes running around but I yet to see any figures indicating that there are vehicles out there causing collissions because of this. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the yearly safety inspections like they do in many other parts of the World but I think this is just another cash grab.
Edit: Just read the article. I thought you didn't even need an engine to get a safety. The article states it had to get the vehicle up to 60km/h. Is this true?

and I agree on some data on crashes would be nice(We dont do that here though). The data we do have is people are in debt out their behinds these days. And part of that can be explained by all the newer cars people are driving. I rolled by mcdonalds the other day...noticed no one inside (it was late)
the drive through was semi busy.
The small handful of cars parked in the lot(the workers) were all newer than 2005. Most of them very recent.
Id say its quite rare to see true *****boxes* these days.

i feel they pass things like the new rules just to satisfy whatever lobby group came up with it. Remember the gov is never looking out for you
What a mess it was in QC last month to register a 10+ year old used car with the new tax rules that were quickly changed.

Has anyone noticed this section of Bill C-31 that was passed?
http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bil...do?BillID=3057
... more than half way down and under Section 100.4 it mentions Accredited vehicle inspection centres
I'm no lawyer, but to me it sounds like framework to set up yearly vehicle safety inspections.

The problem with this type of high fee program is that it hits many people who can least afford it. The average car is about 11 years old and they are not all expensive classics. For someone with a very old (say) Honda Civic the cost relative to the value of the car may be daunting.

If this DOES affect air cooled 911 sales - I guess even more will be going down to the States... Not that I'm planning on selling mind you!
I'd flag an old 911 as suspicious for NOT dripping a bit of oil.

Too bad that our politicians can be scrutinized with the same degree of detail in their character, their personal motivations, and in their culpability in making/supporting bone headed political decisions made with precious tax dollars...
