The savings in production would be minimal.
And yeah, pretty low the the list of priorities all thing considered.

In fact, make front plates illegal.

No I fully expect them to increase fees on carbon cars (up by double) - and make battery cars new plates to virtually zero....and ether way, just get rid of the plate and make it into a law. It's not aerodynamically efficient to be there. So enough is enough. Not needed. Get rid of it.

Quite amusing to see people worried about the aerodynamic efficiency of plates...at (say) 130Km/h?....seems not to worry anyone in Germany when at higher speeds I assume it might be an issue. (doubtful)- even seeing a Chiron factory hack at the Ring last year ( sorry about my pic quality) depicts it has a front plate:
I suppose if you are driving at the limit on a track day you could remove the plate for the session, but I doubt any measurable; difference.. Personally I am not likely to get so close to the performance envelope of any of my cars that it makes the slightest difference. I am in awe of the skill of those who can achieve this.
It seems just to be some North American obsession for the appearance; If the rules change will not bother me. Have lived in Quebec and Ontario and just adapted to the various rules.

Still surprised to see that this is so much more important to a predominantly NA audience (and clearly more vital than global pandemics and economics) European plates? NA plates ? One plate? Two plates? No plates?, is this not a simple matter of “aesthetics” using legality as a defence ? One day when the privilege to drive a car has been taken away and we sit in small quarters, pushing our pablum from one corner of the plate to the other, this poignant topic will find its perspective.

Pretty simple. Cars look better without front plates. People do all kinds of stuff to make their cars look better. spacers. new wheels. carbon fibre bits. decals. I prefer the clean look of no front plate. The cost of this mod is the occasional front plate ticket. I'm ok with it, but would definitely prefer not to get ticketed for something that has no practical use and actually costs the province money.

However, this assumes that the majority of people in Ontario care. I agree completely that this is about appearance and not the "aerodynamic efficiency' argument.
I come from the great unwashed middle. Dont care whether my cars have plates or not. I have cars in Arizona with no front plates and cars here with them. As a European it just seems normal to me to have them, but whatever the law says is fine with me. Would I go back and retrofit my cars with bumper plugs?...doubt it. I do understand that this is very important some people and am very happy for them to campaign on it.
