Default Drive or ship: Calgary to Halifax

Good day,

I am considering purchasing a 2010 Porsche Boxster S located in Calgary. I live in Halifax and while I LOVE to drive, not really looking forward to the 4800 kilometres drive (car has exceptionally low miles but would not look forward to adding so many miles and not to mention the wear and tear which would be put on the car.)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a auto transport company that they could suggest. I am Leary of going that route (possible damage, costs, etc...) I am thinking perhaps shipping from Calgary to Toronto or Montreal then drive the rest.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Didn't you buy the car to drive it?? So why care about miles and wear and tear??

Put the top down and drive it back - its the summer man!!

I decided to drive my 997 from Toronto to Halifax when we moved here a couple of years ago. Some of the highways are a little dicey and there are some long stretches in remote areas.. Be sure to watch for moose through NB but overall was a great drive! My father flew into TO and drove back with me, we took turns, he had a blast, it was a great father/son trip.

I've never used these guys but have heard very good things: http://www.tfxinternational.com/
They quoted me ~$1500 from TO to Halifax as a reference point.. Driving myself was much cheaper between fuel savings and staying /w some family in Fredericton.. Plus enjoyed some good time together.. and of course got to spend some serious time behind the wheel win win win.

Thanks Zer,

I am leaning towards driving, I wouldn't mind Toronto/Montreal to Halifax as much, been there done that, it's more the Calgary to Toronto part that I'm not looking forward to. Long stretches of wheat fields with nary a curve in the road.

One of my best buds has a daughter in Calgary so he'll be coming along to be my co-pilot. Time for a road trip I guess.

Or ship the car from Calgary to Toronto. Then... drive it from toronto to halifax?
I'm sure shipping would be significantly less expensive calgary/toronto.
Then 2o hours to halifax with Elly May by your side. Great trip.

I've shipped a 997 from Toronto to Halifax. Cost was about $900. Have also driven a Cayman from Halifax to Toronto.

I would recommend shipping to Toronto and driving back. I've heard the 20 hour stretch from Manitoba to Toronto is awful

I drove from Toronto to Vancouver a year ago and loved every km of that drive. The top of Superior was spectacular, but even the prairies were cool.

DRIVE IT BACK, all the way! Yes, it's a straight road across the prairies, but you're in a Porsche! This will be a great trip!

Thanks y'all.

Two possibilities I will be considering shipping to Toronto or drive her back all the way. I'm seriously leaning towards the latter. Although I must admit, having my bud as my co-pilot will be a serious come down from my Elly May, that there is no denying.

I've done Halifax to Vancouver and highly recommend it. I think every Canadian should try to make the cross country drive at least once.
The prairies aren't the tough part. It's western Ontario.

Drive it, there will be hardly any wear and tear on a week long cross country road trip. Eve the oil will be in good shape.

You need to make the drive.
Drumheller, the drive along the Cypress Hils, and even the clichéd prairie flatness through Regina and Winnipeg are all interesting parts of our country.
From Manitoba, you can make better time swinging south through Chicago, but that is many hours of truly boring interstates.
As mentioned western Ontario can be tough, interminable rocks and trees, but some of the Superior section is great.
I've made the trip both ways several times, its really worth doing.

Thorsons will ship it for you. They should be happy to have a load going east. They ship for Porsche from Halifax to Toronto and then west. I'm sure you could pick it up in Toronto or have them run it all the way to Halifax.
