The exception to this rule is in the off-topic section (only available to paying members) whereby the content may be a PG-13 rating (some colorful language may be reasonably utilized), however such content may not be used in an insulting or attacking manner.

In my view these standards are too restrictive. The MPAA states the standards as follows:

A G-rated motion picture contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex, violence or other matters that, in the view of the Rating Board, would offend parents whose younger children view the motion picture. The G rating is not a “certificate of approval,” nor does it signify a “children’s” motion picture. Some snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation but they are common everyday expressions. No stronger words are present in G-rated motion pictures. Depictions of violence are minimal. No nudity, sex scenes or drug use are present in the motion picture.

A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.

You can find it here: http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp

Are we really aiming our content at a child of five years? Should OT really be limited to the sensibilities of the parents of a 13 year-old child? OT has banned nudity, and that has been consistently and visibly enforced, but in the past few days it is my impression that the rules are new and are being enforced differently. I suppose that is obvious in that this forum exists to publicize the new rules and to discuss them. I do not think the change is for the better.

You can find a poll on the new guidelines here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...uidelines.html

fo·rum (fôr'əm, fōr'-) Pronunciation Key
n. pl. fo·rums also fo·ra (fôr'ə, fōr'ə)

The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
A public meeting place for open discussion.
A medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper, a radio or television program, or a website.
A public meeting or presentation involving a discussion usually among experts and often including audience participation.
A court of law; a tribunal.

I guess FORUM should no longer be in the title.

Personally, I think that the G/PG "ratings" are too much. I understand the need for keeping things from getting out of hand, but we're all adults here so I don't think we need to dumb it down that much. I can also see such things leading to inconsistent enforcement (mainly due to mods not being able to be everywhere all the time) which will bring further hard feelings.

In the end, I don't get a warm-n-fuzzy from these changes at all. Perhaps that will change once the execution gets ironed out, but after spending all day talking to kids, I really don't want to come to these forums and talk to adults in the same way.

As long as the "I'd Hit It" thread is compliant with the rules in its current state, I'm all for the rules.

The mere fact that John is now IB, the rules are the same. This is IBs site, IBs home if you want, and we are guests.

You wouldnt walk into my house with dog turd on your shoe, you shouldnt here.

For those that are literary challenged, here is one rule that sums them all up:

If you wouldnt want it said in front of your grandmother and four year old, you shouldnt type it here. how hard is that?

Now i will take my marbles and play in another forum here.

While I do agree that there does need to a level of 'maturity' and one should use manners in their post; I completely disagree that this is IB's site.

Sure they own it. However they paid a substantial sum for the ability to generate revenue. Pure and simple.

Rennlist was Johns Brain Child; and it was his baby. However, RL is only as good as the people who frequent it. And sadly there are more trolls and 'users' now a days then I can remember.

Rennlist is the sum of it's parts. It's parts are the people who make RL what it is. RL is very unique for many reasons. But a big 'reason' are the people who frequent it and are real contributors.

Whore it out, and change the dynamics of what makes Rennlist-Rennlist; and it'll simply be just like every other IB site.

Don't believe me? If there's one community out there that doesn't tolerate being bullied into conforming- I'd say that would be the PORSCHE community of Rennlist.

IB- pay attention, otherwise you'll never realize the ROI you were hoping for.

There are 65000 members. There is also a phrase called Sheople... A few members vs. 65000 members... Which one are you?

If you take a look at my join date and post count, or if that doesn't do it for ya, ask around.

My reputation as a contributing member and one of the Rennlist gang speaks for it's self.

Can you say the same Mike?

Chris, what's been going on here has nothing to do with IB. Let me summarize, one guy gets a 2 week vacation for posting porn. Two others are asked to change their avatars to something in better taste. One complies without hesitation, the other one gets angry. Interestingly we can only find a couple of guys with tasteless avatars out of the thousands of active users. Does this provide a hint?

In the meantime a surprising number of people, you included are reacting as if the world has changed radically. It hasn't.
If anything RL is headed back to being what it was when you joined.

Best,

Sorry I didn't own a porsche or feel the need to join before 2007. However, Since then I've documented quite a bit of DIY info in the 996TT section. I'd gone out of my way to help others troubleshoot their car related issues and have offered up my shop and my lift to those rennlisters in need...

Not sure what else I can do to become "one of the rennlist gang" or if I even want that badge of "honor"? I am a paying member but assume that gets me nothing other than "supporting" the site financially.

I like rennlist. I liked the many posts VR and others made. I also see the need for the admin staff to enforce the rules and where the concerns are coming from.

I guess I'm one of the flock, but whatever floats your boat!

Mike,

I think you're taking what I said out of context. What did you think I said?
