jvmca is right, that smell is likely the seatbelt tensioners. My wife and I were rear ended in her Mercedes once, hard enough to make them go off. Feeling those things pull us back into our seats...

Watch out: My car is no longer idiot-proof!

Just spent an hour or so removing the airbag decals from my visors... what a difference! Some latex gloves, some denatured alcohol, and an old T-shirt was all it took to remove the idiot warnings...
