The 40 cent spacer isn't always the solution...might have been 10 years ago when the car had less shift-cycles on it but now it is usually the sleeve of the rod; not the shifter itself.

FYI, the cell codes will come back. Takes a couple of months, but just disconnect the neg of the battery for a few minutes and you will be good. That fix works for about a year before replacement...

Make sure you remove the mufflers (do a search for procedure, easy) and you can do the job in under an hour. Also prevents you from damaging the coil packs, which can be costly!
