I've struggled with this issue numerous times over... 964, 993, and now 997. I don't regret my decisions, however, OMG I wished my finances could support keeping the lot. I missed them ALL!

I admit that my OCD is what killed my lifter. No more additives for me... just semi-annual oil changes going forward. Glad I did not try these additives on my 997. That would have sucked big time!...

I do agree using injector and oil cleaners caused lifters failure due to dirt clogging oil passages not allowing lifters to work properly.

So your saying despite tracking the Boxster I should go back to Mobil 0-40 and discontinue use of zinc additive. Forgot to mention I'm a Floridian. Hot and humid in this neck of the woods!

The lifter issue caused the valves to grind down the cam, so parts need replacing. This is an additional thousand dollars mostly for replacement parts. Thank you all for the great recommendations...

2000... Possible the lifter is failing intermittent noise is the same issue I've experience. The lifter may not be inflating. Place a long screwdriver to your ear and touch the area suspect will help...
