Replacing the two transistors seams to have done the trick, hopefully for good I don't fancy burning out the motor and drive gear $$$$$$$$$.

Here's a photo of mine, have been fitted for a few years with no problems, but as said no hardware or numbers on the wires.
I went with them as they matched the color of the car.

Believe it or not that clock is your alternator problem, that board looks fubard, I would try a pick one up on ebay and re solder all the pins for peace of mind.

Does the alternator start charging...

I joined the the starter motor replacement club last weekend, as always Rennist was a great help and I probably would not have done it without the info on here.

I did not need to lower the engine...
