Similar thing happened to my car a few days ago - turned out to be water leaking through the battery box (corroded from spilled battery acid) onto the DME wiring...

That's a good tip.
Its not so dire though - I'm speaking of the tabs for the metal case on the DME/KLR boxes that needs to be bent up each time the box is opened.
