winter radar detector mount suggestions
It's getting cold in Min-E-SOOO-Ta
All this talk about winter tires brings up another question--Every time today I touched the buttons on my detector it fell off the windshield. Any suggestions? Not a big fan of visor mounts, but might be my only choice.

I think in winter the suction cups don't hold a vacuum as well because they get stiff and air leaks around the edges. They also get stiff with age. You might try getting new suction cups. Another thing that works is putting a thin film of vaseline on the inside of the suction cup to help it hold a vacuum.

I've put a strip of velcro on the dash and then a piece under the detector to hold it secure. Also allows for a quick dismount when Mr. Law Enforcement stops you.

I modified my visor mount so it fits under the headliner.
I can put the visor down to hide it, but the sensor is still exposed.

No.
You got some sort of "hot glue" fetish you need to get out your system before the big 4 0 ?
Thanks. What about Lutsen? Just need a face mask and super sharp skis.
I stuck it in a vise ( wooden so it wouldn't get scratched ) and bent it. Bend the U-shape straight and close it up a bit. Look closely at the second pic. Then I added a small piece of foam, held in by pressure, to keep it tight under the headliner.

OK, Poll for all you experts . . .
1: Epoxy to windshield
2: Hot melt to windshield or to optional leather and wood dash
3: Small hole drilled (dental diamond burs work best) through windshield
4: Really elegant solution from Rob in WA (the neatest one yet--and I have looked a lot) [thanks--you should post this over at 6speedonline if you haven't already)

Call me nuts, but I just hit the windshield with the defroster to warm it up, then lick the suction cups to get them to stick to the glass. Never had a problem down to -10F or so, but it might depend on your detector--I use a V1 and the suction cup system seems better than most.
