So June was the first deliveries? Do you know worldwide sales? If it's anything like F-Car about 50% of worldwide is USA.

yes, june was the first month of customer delivery.

NA was 39% of porsche sales for fiscal 06 due to sales growth in china and russia. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...howtopic=10914

i'll have to get one of my analyst friends to track down worldwide sales data. by law, automakers have to disclose NA sales data by month. i think ww sales are only released as part of porsche's financial reports.

i disagree. turbos have, in recent year, been a significant proportion (20-25%) of overall 911 sales. here are select data points from north american sales reports:

turbo - 225
all 911 - 1,125

total 06 - 11.4% - 997tt (22.7% annualized trend)
turbo - 1156
all 911 - 10,167

total 04 - 16.9% - 996tt (all variants)
turbo - 1,632 (1,572 cabs)

total 03 - 19.8% - 996tt (all variants)
turbo - 1,866 (482 cabs)
all 911 - 9,408

total 02 - 20.3% - 996tt
turbo - 2,318
all 911 - 11,443

total 01 - 22.5% - 996tt

Targas are lowest volume 911 model.

Thanks for posting this. The turbo sales are really strong - I didn't realize they were 20+% of the 911 models.

I also read that over 10k Turbos have been sold in the US since the first one in '73 with almost have of these sales in the over the last two models - 996TT and 993TT.

I ordered by '01 996TT and just placed an order for a 997TT with a May build date.

I think Porsche's pricing plan is working beautifully to have the 997Turbo account for 20% of the sales.

Back in 02, when I bought my C4S, the jump in price from C4S to 996 Turbo was quite large but the performance difference between the 2 cars wasn't enough to justify spending that much more for the Turbo.

This time around, when I priced out a C4S Convertible, it's just chum change short of a Turbo and it's basically a no brainer to go for the 997 Turbo with such a small price difference. Then again the 997 Turbo is so much better than the 996 Turbo, it's still worth it even if the price difference is much bigger.


p.s. sales number as in customer car delivery?

i was wondering myself why i was seeing so many 996tt around so i decided to do some research. imagine my surprise to discover that porsche has sold over 9,000 996tt in north america ... not very exclusive ... but still a highly desirable automobile.

btw, is that an '69 camaro ss with roots blower and dual quads in your avatar? i can't see the car that well ... so that would be my guess.

the sales numbers reported by pcna are cars that have been licensed and delivered to customers.

porsche's pricing strategy definitely works as they are masters at upselling customers and overcharging for options. i've always wondered about why people loaded up their cars to turbo levels ... but i guess that's why porsche is the most profitable car company in the world.

i agree that the turbo is a great deal compared to other 911 models, especially when c4/c4s are loaded up with options. i saw a 04 996c4s cab with x51 and lots of cf and leather options that came to almost the same price as a 04 turbo cab. otoh, i have a friend that put an additional $70k of options (x50, mega-cf, etc) on his 996tt cab.

the correct number is 9,024 996tt sold in NA which includes 790 for 05.

The number of TT around all depends on where you lived, I hardly see another here where I lived but I will probably see half a dozen just on the same block if I lived in Beverly Hills or something.
