FINAL DETAILS: NJ/NY/PA/CT FUN DRIVE - OCTOBER 12, 9:00 AM MEETING, 10:30 DEPARTURE
PLEASE NOTE: CHANGES HAD TO BE MADE TO THE FINAL DESTINATION AS OF 10/4/08'S DRY RUN. THE 50'S STYLE RESTAURANT IS OUT!
The final details are now as follows:
We will meet at our house on Sunday, October 12, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Departure at 10:30 a.m. sharp.
The address is:
deleted
Hopefully everyone will be able to use this to get their directions to the meeting spot.
The drive will head north up through Greenwood Lake area, then through the Bear Mountain Area up into NY state farm land. Then, we will drive across NY state, and end up in western NJ at one of two places. The final destination will largely be decided at the last minute, based on weather, mainly.
The Chatterbox had to be eliminated because a personal visit today, after the dry run, revealed that the next two weekends are pumpkin weekends, and because they are surrounded by pumpkin patches they will be too mobbed with "pumpkineers" to appropriately accommodate us. Plus we would have to park on the lawn. Plus the roller skating waitresses were a thing of the past.
Soooo.....the two finalists are:
Plan 1: If the weather is beautiful....Picnic at Stokes State Farm - Stony Lake day use area --- we will stop about 10 minutes before at a huge deli/bakery/farmer's market called the Apple Pit, which is big enough to handle all of us, to pick up lunches if you didn't byo already, and some fresh farm goodies to take home to your wives/so's.
Then, it's about ten minutes up the road and about a mile off into the woods where we end up in a large parking lot more than big enough for all of us to hang out, and there are walking trails and picnic tables to eat at, plus a basketball hoop at the far end of the lot for the kids to play at. We'll just park at the near end of the lot, and leave the far end for the b-ball stuff.
Plan 2: (Tentative) If the weather is not great - Burger and Hot Dog joint that Toofast928 will scout out for us, with details to be provided later this week.
No specific details about the route will be posted here, but watch your emails early next week, because everything is finalized now, excepting the meeting and eating location, and maps will be going out asap this week. Toofast928, Hubby and I did a dry run today, Saturday 10/4, just to be sure of everything and the drive was lovely. Now we'll just have to see what Mother Nature dishes out.
In the meantime, everyone should give me their real world names (I'll make some "My Name Is" stickers for everyone to help with introductions -- wear them or not, your choice ), personal cell phone numbers for a contact sheet for drive emergencies, as well as your email address (best option), so that I can send you route details, or else I will PM them to you.
I will provide written directions and appropriate maps on the morning of. If you are able to print your own and bring them with you, that would be great, but if not, I will have some. Anyone who is not here by the time we leave can find additional maps under a rock on my front steps, and then you better drive your butts off to catch up.
Here's the list of confirmed attendees so far:
I cannot wait to see everyone!

Whoa!
Is that plus five people?
Or five cars??
I need names, man! I'm gonna make name stickers 'n s*#t, and need to know many maps and how big of a place is needed for lookout stops (if such a thing could be found) and for the picnic.
And don't forget to send your name, cell number and email address!
(Oh wow, we can't wait to see, and hope we get to see, the look on our neighbor's face, when all these Porsches congregate all up and down our street! )
