Hi Q,

No new mods to the exhaust as i might do an engine upgrade (3.4)!

Came back from a trip with my local Porsche Club, present was couple of 930s, 964s and 996s.....i happened to be the only boxster on that trip !

After the trip, I am convinced that i need that 3.4 upgrade ! ( could hardly keep up on the straights )

Projects completed so far;

I manage to put H&R lowering springs and also removed the entire roll bar for powder coating !

Waiting for my Bilstein shocks to arrive,

and also trying out zimmerman cross drilled brake rotors to see if i can save $ (instead of the boxster S brake upgrade)

my next project is to remove the amber backgound of the clear signal lights!

cheers

Q,

Gotta love the "no cats" exhaust. Work of art my friend ! The TT tips are incredible.

You still spinning the 285's in 2nd and 3rd with the 3.4 ?

Sportster98xls - Can you please detail rollbar removal for me? Lookin to do that this winter and need all the info you can provide. Details please. FYI... FVD can do a nice 3.4 upgrade for you.

sportster98xls
you have mail

Boxster 3.4
- thankyou, I was pleased with the end result
....it gained 22HP @ the wheels

For various reasons, I sold my 2.5 boxster & the 3.4 conversion....
This car is an 03 'S'
I must admit, I am still tempted to still do a 3.4 conversion into the S
The better half has said as soon as she has a 997 cab, I am free to do what I want with the Boxster.....

Hi Boxster 3.4,

I will try my best. but please bear with me as i dun have much workshop background.

The removal of the roll bar was done in 4 hrs on trial and error.

It took two people, a mechanic and myself....

1) Put the top down

2) Remove the leather paddings on the roll bars, the paddings are divided into three pieces ( Left, right and centre). This can be done by carefully prying the paddings off. It can be easily pushed back when you are done painting the roll bar.

3) Undo the cabrio top like you want to access the engine. ( for better access to remove the cabrio)

4) Find the point that secures the cabrio to the roll bar, it is near the lever of the seat belt. ( remove this bolt on both sides and the entire soft top can be lifted up in one piece. )

5) remove the vertical carpeted panel that covers the seat belt ( behind the seats) once removed, you can see the "front leg" of the roll bar bolted to the body. ( the roll bar has two legs on each side bolted to the body floor)

6) remove the seat belt as it is mounted on the roll bar. Be sure you remember which way the belt twists when you remount them !

7) To access the "back leg" of the roll bar, you will have to remove some sponge like materials blocking your view of the "back leg". I think they are for sound proofing. Slowly wriggle the sponge out or you will tear it like i did !

8) The "back leg" of the roll bar is quite deep in with little space to turn the bolts and will be a challenge if you dun have the right tools !

9) do the same for the other side of roll bar and lift the entire bar up and out !

10) If you are just spray painting the bar you can just tape up the plastic parts on the roll bar ( stuff like the holder of the wind deflector)

11) If you are powder coating it, be sure to remove all plastics on it and cover the threads for the bolts to fit later.

12) reverse the order to refit the bar and cabrio....

13) top down all the time to flaunt those painted roll bars!

14) It is worth the effort as it brings out curves of the rolls bars!

hope it helps, will try to post some pics i took....

Hi again,

circled the areas to tape out so the painting will not affect the screw threads and allowance...

Where did you get the formed boot cover? I know that's not what it's called but I don't know what else to call it. (I referring to the body section behind the seats that retracts to allow the top to retract.)

I think that looks great. Do you have any photos of your car with the top up? I'm curious how it looks up.

Thanks,
Charlie

Speedster humps ! .....now I am with you.
They are genuine Porsche items.

Unforunately, the humps don't retract. They must be manually removed and stored in the rear boot before the roof can be raised.

Thanks, after I had the correct term ("Speedster humps"), I found them under Tequipment at Porsche's web site.

What holds them in place? Do the rattle at speed?

They do look GREAT!

ALSO, your photographs are AWESOME!!!

Charlie
