Default Dispelling the 2003 Sport Exhaust Debate! (PICS)

this picture below seems to disprove that the pre 03 sport exhuast for the boxsters (the one with the big pipes and tips with little dots around them) could not be installed on 03 models due to the diffusor.

strange also is that the porsche website shows a NEW sport exhuast for 03 and later models that looks kind of like the 996 exhuast...

but the pic below shows that the pre 2003 official porsche tequipment exhuast CAN be installed on 03 and later models with the new rear bumper, oh well.

only in monaco i suppose ...

That does not look like the pre MY03 factory sport exhaust as I cannot see the bypass pipes. It does look like this aftermarket muffler.

The Porsche site under Boxster Tequipment has a listing for a MY03 sport exhaust, but the picture is the 996 sport exhaust. If you look at the 996 Tequipment section it has the same picture as the Boxster section.

The part number listed for the MY03 Boxster sport exhaust is 000 044 200 20. There may be a new post 2002 sport exhaust unless Porsche also screwed up on the part number like they did the picture. It does however say it will work with the bolt on sports tailpipe, and that started in 2003 so maybe. My parts guy checked the number and it is good - $2,200 - but could not confirm it was for a Boxster. Jeff

Tool Pants,

Look closer at the picture where the tip meets the "pipe" instead of the muffler, you can tell if you look closely that this is the regular Boxster sports exhaust with the pipes because of the intersection angle between the tip and the pipe which is rounded and convex to accomodate the pipe vs. being angled to just mate up to the body of the muffler as in your pictures above. I dont know the story behind this particular exhaust, but it sure looks like the regular sports exhaust from Porsche that I had on my old Boxster.

Thumbs up Tequipment Porsche Exhaust

This is the genuine Tequipment system including the valves and bypass pipes that you are talking about.
I had this fitted to mine a few weeks ago and it sounds fantastic

It certainly looks the same as my system.........I think the bypass pipes are hidden by the new style rear PU

definitely. but what REALLY bothers me,

is why the porsche website shows - what is obviously a 996 exhuast as the sport exhuast for 03 and after boxsters.

I don't think that answers it because the car in the top pic has the pipes. The question is, are those the old tips on a new sports exhaust muffler or is that an old sports exhaust muffler that has been fitted to work behind the new bumper? It may be that the original will work with some modifications to the main bracket, or may clear without mods but be too close for Porsche to warranty and someone in the top pic just took a chance. I wouldn't rule out the original design based on the other thread.

the first pic in this thread is definitely the OLD sport exhuast on a post2003 car.

apparently it fits, but porsche has also developed what appears (on their website) to be a new SE for post2003 cars which features two separate mufflers.
