Fixed headlights V4?
I've been trying to come up with a reproducible bracket for my stationary headlights. I also am confounded by how to surround the lamp, and fill the hole.
I was just experimenting this afternoon, and came up with this, which I thought might be cool, and somewhat easier for me to make than the recessed look I have now.
Kind of a 968 look, no?
Note: the driver's side light has been cut 'n pasted.
I'm reusing the factory headlight cover. The acyrlic face would be painted on the inside, but be clear in front of the headlight.
What might be even more cool would be a slim band of clear towards the outside. Inside, clear bulbs would create an 'Angel Eyes' effect, and amber bulbs would show as turn signals.
What I can't decide is what color would be best for the surround: black, chrome, or maybe the car's color?

Actually, I could do that... Have the amber section on top...
...
Another option as opposed to painting the cover is to put a brushed stainless or aluminum plate around the headlight. In fact, the headlight could bolt to this plate. Then the cover could be clear.

Problem are the sharp edges at the top. It's a death sentence for any pedestrian you might hit on that side...
Otherwise it just looks like your headlights are no longer retracting.

Not easy to solve without getting into the fenders for some body work - and $$$. The lights inserted more deeply to allow the graceful line of the fender to be preserved would be my preference.
This version looks half asleep .... maybe half awake ... or half something: maybe if they could flutter a bit, it would be like REM dream/sleep .... a very productive state for inventors

I guess this won't fly either...
It's pedestrian friendly, though.

Sorry Ken, that kinda looks like a condom with a huge hole in it.

I'm not likely to ever want anything other than my 8" H4's, unless I retrofit them with HID.... so I'm an unlikely potential customer for this. Just talking and offering feedback though... If the primary goal is to save weight, then I liked your previous idea better, where it all lay under a round acrylic or lexan piece that was flush with the top of the fender. If you know how to lay 'glass you could tighten that design up with contoured shrouds so you don't have a huge hole there.
If you're brainstorming a retrofit that might make use of the original mechanism, maybe you could make the lights flip 180° about their centerline like late 80's vettes? When retracted they could look have a round painted disc the approximate size and shape of a retracted 8" light and when turned on they could rotate around and present the Spaceballs "455hole" helmet...
