Default PORSCHE Re-Introduces the Sports Car

Car and Driver, June 1977

Got this off eBay; I scanned, photoshopped for clarity, and PDF'ed it.

Cool quotes, big words, great info. Enjoy!

I asked Dr. Fuhrman about Tony Lapine. He thought about my question for a moment, then grinned wickedly and said, "He is, of course, crazy. But that is my problem. One does not expect to ride a fine, spirited horse without some trouble. He is not your average citizen; he is one of the best and that will make anyone unusual.

Thanks for sharing, Ken. Very thoughtful of you.

There are some great quotes in there....

"Suddenly, either by accident or well choreographed plan, a 911 appeared beside a 928 in the covered entranceway of our hotel in Nice. The presence of the new car overwhelmed the narrow, rather tall, elder machine and made it seem almost quaint and antique."

I have a copy of that article from a while back.

What I noticed most when reading it was that the average C&D reader back then was a lot smarter than today.

Dave-
That is because LJK Setright and David E. Davis were writing for C&D back then (and Gordon Baxter)

You consider LJK Setright an asset??? I've been reading that magazine for over 25 years and was never so happy to see someone leave! I guess he's an acquired taste...

Thanks Ken. I remember the article from the Dr. Fuhrmann quote "one man can design a car, a small group can design a car, but a large group of men will always design grey mice." What I didn't remember and can't quite read on my screen or the prinout is the following quote, "I promise you that anyone who has owned a Turbo ________ for one year will never forget it". What goes in the blank?

I beleve it went "Anyone who has ever owned a Turbo, or a 928, for one year, will never forget it" IIRC...
