Default Got those orange plugs 273-1P now what?

I received 2 plugs from Niagara caps and plugs. They are orange and part # 273-1P as was posted. I've read two different descriptions on what to do. One said open the airbox and plug the hole with one plug and that's it. The other said plug the box and plug the small bypass tube being careful not to let the plug get sucked into the intake? I was just wondering if anyone had that straigtened out yet or perhaps had some pics online of what they did.

TIA.

well i did mine yesterday and you install it by taking off the little by-pass hose and install the plug into the airbox, you will note that the bypass hose has an extra lip that will not let the orange plug get sucked into teh airbox, and might i add that the sound diffrence is unbelievable!!!! i can't wait to get an exhaust now!!!!

NiveK, you only used one plug? I thought the other descriptions talked about using 2 plugs...?

Can some elaborate? What are they, where do they go, and what are they supposed to do? My search in 996 for orange plugs revealed nothing. Thanks.

what exactly, is this mod supposed to do? Sounds a little to simple to me for a hp gain. Is it purely for sound?

sound=hp gain does it not? I'll take a look under the hood and see if I can just figure this out myself.

Default Orange Cap Installed!

Ok I've done the install and photographed the procedure. You can find the complete procedure at:

Here is a sample photo:

Larger photos and description are on the website above.

Nice pics. Good work! I will try this later. My new GHL exhaust seems to drown out that nice induction sound that is produced around 5,000 RPM, so maybe this plug is the solution

The plug produces a noticeable increase in sound from the intake, deeper, throatier and louder. Absolutely the best damn upgrade for the $ you can do!

It would be much better to remove the airbox silencer and then plug that port. Then either remove and replace the tb hose for a straight one, or modify it or plug where the silencer went. The main reason for doing any of it is to remove the silencer ala fabspeed kits etc, because it opens up a significant amount of area in the airbox. All other "mods" are a waste.

Just looked at the pictures... What if you used a double thickness of aluminum foil to cover the hole on the air box and then replace the hose/clamp back on it? I might just try it...

Yes, you can improve upon this mod, and perhaps the next time I want to open the airbox I'll take out the silencer. BUT for FREE and a quick 5 minutes, you can't beat this "mod".
