Music Keg installed
Thanks to many of you (esp. Kevin and mudman2), I've finally got my Music Keg installed in my '03 S over the last weekend.
Here are the list of parts you'll need:
- FM Modulator: Kenwood KCA-R70FM
- Music Keg (KHD-C710 or KHD-C910)
- Antenna Adapters (VW/European 2002 and newer)
- ABS board (for custom trim panel)
- Crimp-on quick disconnects (available from local Radioshack)
- Velcro, Tox driver, tapes
Here are some pictures.
Clamp the crimp-on connector to the power wires.
After taking out the trim panel surrounding the CD radio.
Head unit cavity. Shine a flash light up from the front footwell and you'll see where to get the antenna wires to.
Custom trim panel for the controller. The extruding tabs on the side are used to fix the panel to the dash.
Music Keg main unit is installed under the passenger seat. I pulled the drawer out, detach the cover and velcro it back to the seat. The Keg is installed with velcro tapes and this appears to hold the unit very well.

(continued..)
There is only one controller/audio line going to the FM modulator. It is about 15 ft long. Tuck the excessive wire behind the Keg and stick the wire out. Then press the wire into the doorsill panels.
I installed the modulator box under the carpet in front of passenger seat. To get access to the carpet opening, you can remove the black footwell panel. Simply locate the tox screw in front of the footwell panel.
Connect power lines. Both #25 and #48 are empty and simply insert the crimp-ons would do. Connect the ground to the metal panel below fusebox.
Panel in the dash. Apparently it is working.
Remember to turn off the AP functionality on your radio (speed sensitive volume control) or you'll hear hissing sound when playing quiet music. I think the slight noise produced by the FM modulator gets the AP microphone into a positive feedback loop.

Micheal,
Would by chance have the part number for Aluminum surround for the stereo, mine didnt have it. Also how do ou like your fabspped cat bypass? Is a complete bypass, or just secondary? worth the expense? Warranty issues? I am considering adding it to my must do list.

I got the antenna adapters from a local Circuit City. They did not put the adaptors out for sale; I had to ask the installation tech for these.
I think you can also get it online. Did a google search and found this... get EU-30 (or EU-10+EU-20).

These older VW/European adapters are NOT the right ones.

Looks good. I had to mount mine over the PCM. I highly recommend adding the Sirius setup since it integrates into the same control unit. I have both and love it. You can see for pics of mine.....Ericmy keg install

Sorry I cannot remember the part number but my parts dept only took 5 or 6 minutes to locate it, then it took about a week for them to get it. Looks much better.
I have the Fabspeed secondary Cat Bypass pipes, most certainly worth the money, great sound and a marked performance improvement.
I spoke to my dealer who said they saw no problem with them.

WCS - Looks great and fantastic graphics!
BTW, Does the "switched fuse #48" stay on as long as the radio is on? (until you open a door) My XM installer said he couldn't find a lead that would work.
