Rear-engine air-cooled race opportunity for Bay Area sharksters/rennlisters
I'm thinking it would be fun for a group of us to show up here and tear it up... weeknight, weekend, whatever... I just want to gauge the level of interest and schedule it based on what will work for those that are interested.
I've been there once, about 1-1/2 or 2 years ago, then about a month ago as a company offsite fun thing. So no, I haven't been practicing to smoke everyone. But I found it to be a whole lot of fun, and I believe that it would be even more fun with a group of people that can actually drive, and not keep getting in the way...
So, who's up for this?

I'm in. Also two other tracks we could consider:
LeMans Karting in Milpitas
GoKartRacer in Burlingame

Guys, one point that was brought up by one of the guys at work is that not all facilities offer a clean, comprehensive set of racing gear as SpeedRing does. He forwarded a message(below) from a guy who has been to each several times. I don't think I would care to use a suit that has been used by 5-6 other people that day, and there may be others that feel the same way. Let's try to keep the choice of venue open for now, and if I'm the only one that cares about this particular detail we'll drop it. Bill, Dennis, I know you have your own Nomex or equivalent but I don't yet and I'm not sure whether Geoff does or not.
Take a look at the outlaw race format offered by Speedring. That sounds really appealing to me, and might appeal to a broader audience than the sprints that they all seem to offer. It's twice the racing, with the second event lining up in opposite order of the finish order from the first race. Great way to work on passing skills!
So far, it sounds like we can boost attendance 33% by doing it on a weekend. Let's take input from interested parties for exactly one week from the time of the first post, then work on reaching a consensus. Please post limitations on your availability as well. I can be pretty flexible with enough notice, but the first weekend in September is bad for me and I'm going to a Mopar show & shine the evening of the 21st.
We already have enough interest to qualify for a discount at SR. I think any of the three tracks would let us take one whole track session and be all P-car drivers on the course if we get enough people, maybe 10 or so. I'll check into it further.

Impressions from Dragos regarding GoKart Racer in Burlingame; all in all it sounds like LeMans might be a better deal.
<<
Here are my impressions:
1. More expensive than the other two places. It costs $25 for 10 minutes ($2.50/min and I think the other places are more like $1.something/min) plus a one-time $5 for a "license".
2. The layout is similar to Speedring in the sense that it's tight and narrow, although they have a three turn chicane similar to turns 1-2-3 at LeMans.
3. The surface has a bit more grip than Speedring, but certainly not enough to justify the seatbelts (although it's cool to have a 4-point harness).
4. The karts are a bit more responsive than S
5. They don't give you gloves, they don't wash the suits after every use and they give you a head sock (as part of the $5 fee) but you need to bring it back every time else they'll charge you $2 for a new one.
6. The lockers cost $0.25

I'm in....did the MKM ORR X-mas party with Bill and George in Fremont last Dec. Ann and I had a blast! 1 week notice should be enough for me.

One week notice should do it for me. I don't have nomex but it isn't a deal breaking thing in any event. I would like to use my own helmet but again not the end all. This ought to be a blast. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to.

Dave, yep, that's me.....but today I have to return the EXTURBO plates to the DMV. Seems there are two cars in Ca with that plate. I got mine last, so I have to return it. Bummer.
