what kind of car do you have man. The late 944 windshield is glued in. Never replaced one in an early car.

It's a 88 turbo s ?
There is a rubber gasket that goes around the outside of the windshield
I am going to just have them replace it .....

IIRC there is a "spacer" that goes in there between the frame and the window - a lot of replacements forget or don't put those in and end up over-gunking the windows, which end up leaking. Check the parts diagram at the dealership and make sure the glass shop replaces ALL the parts, not just the glass. I have to do mine on the 951 eventually, there's a small chip in it also - you know a good glass place? Was the windshield affordable?

C.E.,

I'm not so sure that the trim piece on the outside of the windshield is there to "seal" out water. It seems to me that there should be some rubber seam sealant between the windshield and the chassis, which would only be revealed once the windshield is removed. Either way, do it right and replace anything that's suspect, as any leaks will drive you even crazier, Eddie.

Hey Jeff
It is all covered by insurance so I have not asked about the price ...
Johnnybgood
had recommended a place here that had an incredible low price ....like 200-250 ?
This is an OEM so my guess is 700-800 at least and the gasket is 60+ bucks
I will call the dealer today and ask about other parts ... Thanks for the advice
regards
Ed

Manual doesn't state that you need a new gasket, might as well get a new one after all those years.....

I had my '87's windshield replaced a couple of years ago. I insisted on OEM windshield and a new gasket. Total was about $425. If I used my insurance the price would have been $1200.

You might talk to your agent and see if he will reimburse you and pay cash to the repair place?? That is what I plan to do next time.

What did you pay for the windshield? I got a quote for $280 for an aftermarket one installed. I had this company install one on my Bravada, and it seems like good quality glass.
