Suspect your Varioram not working? It could be ...
seriously compromised if the vacuum splitter (993 110 573 00) has collapsed restricting vacuum to the Varioram. This was one of the points to check on a 993 motor brought out by Tony Callas at the recent PCA/POC Technical Session at Callas Rennsport in Torrance, CA Callas Rennsport . Flashlight in hand, I peeked into the engine bay on my car, passenger left side, way back there...and sure enough, the splitter had flattened out .
Was the collapse restricting vacuum to the Varioram? It certainly would appear that way. The restriction had reduced the flow area by 50%.
Maybe it is the new Fabspeed Supercups and the Fabspeed airbox, but with the vacuum splitter replaced, the car definitely seems faster to me. Check out your splitter...the 12 HP produced by the Varioram is nice to have.

Alex, was not sure if you meant where in the engine it is found or where Martin found the part. This link includes some pics that show the location of this vaccum piece https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...llas+rennsport. As for the part #, if Martin doesn't supply, I'll get the # off of mine as it currently sits in my coin tray. I got mine replaced along side Martin's on the same day at Callas.
My car was on the lift next to a very nice and tricked out white aero C2 with gorgeous 02 5-spoke rims. I was quietly admiring while the Callas folks were working on my car when Martin walks up. It didn't take too long after talking a bit about our cars to realize we were both Rennlisters. It was great to meet someone you know on a board like this somewhat randomly. Talking to Martin was a great way to pass the morning.
Martin, I also felt my car to be a bit faster and more responsive. I wonder if others have had a similar experience with this part before and after.

Wow....awesome post Martin...
How does one get to this part ? Apparently it is behind the blower fan on the left side of the engine......difficult to R&R....? Anyone DIY yet ???

The Callas guys were able to replace this part in about 5 minutes without removing any other parts, though probably not easy for the uninitiated and lots done by feel.

Martin stopped by the other day to tell me about this fix. I always thought there was something not quite right about my engine at the higher revs, it is likely this! After years of high rev abuse it is likely by hose has calapsed Time to fix it!!!

I thought that Varioram only bosted mid-range torque, and that the HP increase came from other engine changes.
Failure of this part could be why I don't hear a distinct change as rpm increases. I will certainly check it out. Great thread, thanks for posting it. I was sorry I missed Tony's session. He is always great.

The sound of the Varioram....
In my car, I hear a definite intense, however brief, induction noise at 5,000 RPM. At the track I could use this noise as an aural tach, especially up Turn 2 at Willow Springs raceway. The sooner on the hill I heard the induction noise the quicker I was going up the hill toward the Omega.
Father of 3 and me, we have had our vacumm splitter's replaced. As mentioned earlier, I could swear the car is quicker with this fix.

BTW, there is a great picture of this spliter in the Callas Rennsport tech session thread a week or so ago taken by Max. Shows exactly where it is and what a flattened one looks like. You can get them from Pelican. Good luck!

thanks for the info father of 3 and Martin - will look at it tonight in the car.
I actually was able to see the part number in Martin's original post, I simply was not able to find it in my PET CD. Will look again there.
