Default SSk Install

Local shop wants 300 bucks to install the under carriage B&M ssk. Is that reasonable?

The instructions for this unit is crap.. Pictures are blurred.

Help!

Try Loren on renntech, you may want to consider the in car unit, much easier.

In car unit takes about an hour and you can do it yourself....

I have the under car kit, and it is much easier/quicker to install than the in car. Takes under an hour, and no fine tuning required. $300 is a rip.

The instructions are pretty bad, and the pictures look like they've been photocopied 20 times. Here's a thread with pix from my install:

thanks poursha... I've seen your link and will use the diagram as reference.. How about some step by step instructions.. Do I need a special tool or does the link/rod just pop off? I want to get as much info as i can before I actually jack the car up and get under it..

agreed, 300 bucks is a rip for a bolt on part..

Is there an OEM part so I don't have to worry about warrantee issues (I know B&M makes the Porsche SSK and they're identical)? If I get some garage ramps will I have enough room to get under the car and install?
Thanks for the help.

The 2 round-tipped pieces where the gear cords attach to the trans just pry off. On my '04 Carrera, the underside is covered with aero panels and you need to remove 3 of them, so doing this yourself (even with a jack and jack stands) is not feasible--you need a lift, so I had it done at an independent shop. You need a few torx drivers.

so basically, unless I have access to a lift i'm SOL???

Let me see if my 03 has the aero panels.. If it does I might have to bite the bullet and pay the shop 300 bucks..

unless anyone else has any ideas..

Find a porsche shop to do it or get an in car unit, really you have few options at this point. Good Luck!

yea, I think thats what i'll have to do.. Selling it to get the in car version is not an option.. too much trouble.. I've only heard good things about the under car kit.. Hopefully I can wheel and deal with these guys..

Default Just installed!

Ok I just got my B&M ssk installed by "Autobahn" in fairfax Va. Great bunch of guys.. Only cost me 150

I think I have it set on 30% if the top most hole is 30%. I'm not really sure how I like it. The shifting is definitely alot shorter but requires more effort and feels stiff. I'm not sure if it will soften up over time (doubt it). Like someone mentioned, I really have to make a conscience effort to really shift to the right gear. The hardest for me is going from 3rd to 4th, it really feels stiff and notchy unlike before. Is this normal for everyone else? Should I just pull really hard and fast or is that bad for the tranny?

I was thinking maybe I could select the 20% option hoping that it would soften the feel. Now that i've seen it done i'm pretty sure I can make the adjustments myself.

Also, what I noticed from my B&M unit from Poursha's was that my piece has a slight angle to it where as his was flat. Does anyone know if I purchased the wrong shift kit or possible an older model. It appears that the old pivot ball on the shift arm is suppose to plug right into the extra hole on the B&M shift adapter. but mine doesn't bc of the slight angle.

What do you guys think? Do you think it will soften up if I back it down to 20%?

Here are some pics..

What color are your sports seats from the GT3?

I already have it installed.. I'm not going to buy the in-car one now..

yea but I don't think the block goes in any other way. The stud has to be pointing out and on Pourshas post the B&M emblem is facing out. I just think its the wrong unit or an old model where the bottom portion flanges out..

Let me search ebay for the shifter you are talking about..

Is your ssk notchy or hard to shift?
