Default 924 turbo nose panel

I would like to install the 924 turbo nose panel on my 951, however someone was telling me that it is not a direct bolt on. Does anyone have more details on this, and what would be required to make it work?

Thanks,
~Eric

I believe the 924 panel was welded on, that's what I seem to remember from discussions a couple of years ago...

Its a different shape from 951 nose panels. Different curvature.

Easiest way to get that look/effect is to do it yourself to a 951 panel...

Rennlist member "Thaddeus" did it on his old 951. You can search for his old posts on the topic under his user_id.

2 ways of doing it.

1. And the easiest. Get a 931 header panel and cut the vent section out and mat it to the 951 header panel.

2. And hardest and what I did. Customs cut and fabricate tabs to hold the vents. Takes a lot of time and is likely more expensive.

I got the measurements off Tifosiman (IIRC) to position the vents in the 951 panel, well they were ALL wrong. So I just positioned them where I thought they looked best and in proportion to the 931 panel... the 931 panel is NOT a direct fit, hence these two alternatives.

If you have any specific questions, just let me know and I will help you where I can.

Since you like your proof and testing so much, did you take before and after intake temps with regards to the vented nose panel?

On one hand it looks good and clearly will allow more air flow, but on the other i can see a million dead insects getting splattered across the charge cooler and reducing efficiency.

Some good empirical data would be handy.

Cheers

I gave you what you asked for. My measurements were correct for the actual 931 panel. Your 951 panel is curved and different. I told you all of that upfront, Andrew.

Thanks for the advice guys! I think I am gonig to go with one of the aftermarket vented nose pannels. I like the idea of the 924 turbo look, but it really seems like a pain getting it right!

Of course. Do a search. I posted an entire thread on the intake temp data with this mod

So the point is all the data was useless for this mod, if anyone wants some useful data and like the spacing and design of the vents on my car, I will measure it up and post it...

Its not that much work really, you could just buy the vents and take it to a panel shop. Or search for a 931 panel and take that. I wanted to keep as much of the Porsche feel as possible on the car. Hence the 931 vents.

That is correct - the 931 header will fit normal 944s, not the 951s. The 951 has a bit more rise to it to clear the intercooler. You could probably heat and bend the panel with good results though - the amount of difference is rather slight. They were also welded on; mine simply had the original spot weld points drilled out. That's where the bolts will go in the new installation, I just need to drill new bolt holes (and rust protect them!) in the corresponding locations on the 944. I am working on cleaning up / sanding / prepping the panel now, hopefully if I can get someone to mix up a batch of paint I'll be able to spray it and get it on the car in a couple of weeks here. I'll post pics when I get off my lazy *** and finish it (I'll post a full write up on my web site too).
