Default The correct measurements for the 931 vents on a 951

By popular demand and because of some misinformation out there...I thought I would post a new thread for someone searching...

A = 230mm
B = 235mm
C = 235mm
D = 230mm
E = 55mm
F = 15mm

Notes:

Because the panel is curved, the middle two vents are spaced lower than the two outer vents.

The E measurement in the closest point from vent and edge. And is the same at the opposite end.

The F measurement is the space between EACH vent.

The measuremnts are as close as I could measure however given the rolled edge there may be a slight variation, but you get the idea. This is not an exact scaled form from the 931, but simply what I ended up doing, so you can judge how it looks off the picture if you decide to do it. If you go the custom route, then you can move them where you please!

I have tested this mod against an intake temp sensor in my IC to itnake pipe and my 968 ambient temp sensor. On boost it drops intake temps circa 4-5 degrees C over a closed panel and circa 2 degrees C on cruise. I think that equated to a 5HP gain on boost. Obviously this is not exactly a total performance mod, but it does work! And looks sweet and "Porsche"...

EDIT: IIRC the Posrche part number for the plastic vents is 477 853 381 it costs around $10 each. Also bank on painting the panel after as well as the rolling of the edges will crack the paint.

Hmmmm. . . Things I may need to do. I currently have a 931 header panel for the 944 (Callaway) so that one will install correctly, but this could be interesting for the 951 also, especially given the intercooler position (on the Callaway the intercooler goes down low and gets its air from the holes in the lower valence, the 931 panel will be for some additional ducted turbocharger cooling, general engine bay cooling and an external oil cooler). Do you want to post the part #'s for the louvered vents? If you don't have them I can get 'em off my panel at home tonight - that'll be the "missing item" for a lot of people trying to do this on their own.

Sorry, missed that. Nice job, btw. I'll check on mine anyway just to make sure there wasn't more than one kind or anything. I've got to clean & respray those anyway (black, of course!)

NZ, have you ever thought about painting them silver now that your door handles are your body color? (or at least I think they are 968 handles...) I think silver would update the look.

I like the fact tey stick out, and black in the stock colour, so I like to keep it stock but updated look where I can, yes they are 968 handles I managed a group buy on them a few months ago, had a LOT of people get in on it. Big ups to Jeff at Sunset. I am about to get some 911RSA manual mirrors (with 968 bases) from Jeff, if there is enough interest maybe I could look at another GB. They are pretty cheap in the manual form!

Do you have pics of the 911 mirrors you were speaking of? I was looking at getting 968 mirrors...

Thanks NZ. I love these cars, I've got a list of projects to last well into retirement.

Next time you have that header off, take some shots of the backside.
TIA
