Default R134 Conversion?

Can someone tell me what the difference is between an R134, and an R12 charging port? I have forgotten how to tell them apart.

I need to fix the A/C on my newly purchased Carrera. I have a receipt showing the A/C was charged on 1/7/05. Unfortunately, it does not cool at all. It has new hoses on it, so I'm wondering if it's been converted.

Since my BMW also needs a compressor, I'm giving serious consideration to buying A/C tools. If I convert the Porsche to R134, I should be able to use the tools to fix both vehicles for at less than I'd pay to have someone else do the work.

its easy to find a leak, just trace all the hoses with a match! J/K

if its leaking bad enough it will usually leave oil around the leak, so check your lines and fittings for any light refrigerant oil, as a start, no luck with that, take it to an Porsche shop that does A/C so they can use their R134 sniffer

Has anyone else noticed the steep increase in the price of 134A freon. It went from $59.00 to $170.00 for the 30lb jug, this is Sam's price, other sources are around $250.00 The 12oz cans are selling for almost $15.00 each at Autozone and other parts houses. I dug into this for a reason in the increase, and found that the big-*** dam they are building in China, the 3 gorges dam, is using almost all the worlds supply of 134A to cool the concrete, so it does not take a hundred years or more to cure and cool down. Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this cost increase.
